Both roles generally require similar educational backgrounds and work in comparable environments.

Is it better to be exempt or nonexempt?

For a nonexempt software engineer, being nonexempt means eligible for overtime pay and requires tracking hours worked, while exempt status typically excludes overtime but may offer higher base pay. The choice depends on work hours, compensation preferences, and company policies; nonexempt roles often involve more structured schedules and time tracking. Understanding the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) classifications helps determine which status aligns with your job responsibilities and work environment.

Can I make 200k a year as a software engineer?

Software engineers can earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with seniority, specialized skills, or working in high-paying industries like finance or tech. Achieving this level often requires extensive experience, advanced knowledge of programming languages, and sometimes working in roles that include bonuses or stock options.

Is it true that AI will replace software engineers?

AI is unlikely to fully replace software engineers, especially non-exempt software engineers, as their roles involve complex problem-solving, creativity, and understanding user needs that AI cannot replicate. Instead, AI tools are increasingly used to assist engineers in coding, testing, and automation, enhancing productivity rather than replacing the profession. Software engineers will continue to be essential for designing, maintaining, and improving software systems.
