Description
Job Title: Lab Technician
Reports to: Director of Quality
Department: Lab
Classification: Full Time; Non-Exempt
Schedule: Includes weekend hours (Sunday-Thursday, Saturday- Wednesday, or Tuesday-Saturday)
Westward Route
Lab Technician executes current quality control and analysis procedures by collecting, analyzing and reporting on critical control point data. This data is used by Brewers to make informed decisions regarding product quality.
Job Responsibilities
Team
  • Communicates data collection expectations and techniques to operators across the brewery
  • Escalates quality concerns to Director of Quality

Quality Execution
  • Uses the spectrophotometer for VDK, IBU, and Color.
  • Performs microbiological analysis - sterilization/equipment prep; media preparation; plate pouring; membrane filtration, examines samples in process. Performs yeast cell counts: post-knockout; 24hr suspended; pre-filter; post-filter; brinks
  • Performs ATP meter swabbing.
  • Performs daily gravities, pH and temperature adjustments of all fermentation tanks
  • Runs package oxygen and CO2 tests with Anton Paar cBox.
  • Performs seam checks.
  • Conducts weekly sanitation audit.

Lab Equipment
  • Calibrates lab/quality equipment daily. Cleans and maintains lab and production floor quality instruments
  • Trains on new lab equipment as it is acquired
  • Calibrates packaging quality equipment and performs routine maintenance.

Cellar Work
  • CIP/SIP brinks and harvest yeast on eligible tanks.
  • Dry hop eligible tanks.
  • Drop trub on eligible tanks.
  • Carbonate tanks as assigned.

Admin & Other
  • Performs laboratory upkeep and inventory: stock solution preparation; general clean up; equipment maintenance; consumable inventory.
  • Data management: Updates all relevant logs and tracking documents.
  • Monitors Basecamp, email, and shared logs on Google Drive
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • 12 - 24 months of laboratory experience; preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing facility. An applicable degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Coconino County Food Handler's Card

Required Abilities
  • Able to lift up to 65 pounds independently from floor, at waist level, and above waist
  • Able to team lift up to 165 pounds, and may maneuver (not lift) using a dolly up to 330 pounds
  • Able to stand for 10+ hours per day
  • Able to twist, crouch, bend, and stoop multiple times per day
  • Can understand and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and handle chemicals in a safe manner
