Job description

The job summary below and responsibilities reflect the Production Specialist IIrole. The successfully chosen candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with their skills and experience as different skills and/or experience will be required at the Production Specialist III level.

Position Summary
Applies knowledge and utilizes advanced technical expertise in a specific specialty area in support of operations and maintenance across the Xcel Energy fleet. Specialty areas include, but are not limited to Process Controls, Operational Technology (OT), Electrical, Turbine-Generators/Rotating Equipment, Boilers/Heat Recovery steam generators, and/or Non-Destructive Testing (NDE/NDT). Provides technical support consisting of diagnostics analysis, short and long-term maintenance/outage planning, resource development, documentation, and reliability centered operations and support. Responsibilities are generally 50% in technical support, 30% in outage support, and 20% in maintaining fleet-wide programs and processes. Interfaces extensively with other departments, plants, and OEMs and may oversee craft employees. Extensive travel within a geographic region and across the fleet is required.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in specialty area for Energy Supply generation assets, includes supervision of craft employees. Provide start-up assistance and coordination for maintenance, modifications, and new systems.

  • Provide major facility maintenance project management for scheduled and unscheduled outages. Function in a lead role for minor O&M and capital projects related to area of expertise. Develop computerized scheduling techniques for major component outages.

  • Provide technical direction and alternatives for control systems and major equipment problems. Coordinate and evaluate generating asset maintenance programs to improve generation reliability. Make recommendations for corrective action when necessary.

  • Partner with plant personnel and coordinate fleetwide maintenance programs in area of expertise to improve generation reliability. Assist with Energy Supply's preventive maintenance and reliability programs.

  • Assist in conducting periodic audits of Quality Assurance programs/procedures. Assist with the development of standards and procedures to support consistent methods to improve equipment/generation reliability.

  • Act as a liaison between contractors/service providers and the Company. Interface with State Inspector, authorized insurance agents, and other regulatory agencies. Write specifications and purchase requisitions to support Production Resources activities.

  • Write specifications and purchase requisitions for services to support fleet reliability activities.


Production Specialist II: (Salary Range: $84,900 - 120,566)

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in power generation, or equivalent industrial manufacturing/power generation setting, or OEM operations/maintenance that demonstrates knowledge of standard engineering principles/practices/techniques and power generation operations/maintenance processes with expertise in one or more of the following areas: process control, operational technology (OT), electrical, turbine-generators/rotating equipment, boilers/heat recovery steam generators, and/or non-destructive testing (NDE/NDT).

  • Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) experience is helpful.

  • Some college coursework in engineering is desirable.

  • Must have the ability to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules.

  • Must be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.

  • Experience in supervising craft employees desired.

Production Specialist III: (Salary Range: $97,600 - $138,600)

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of nine (9) years of work experience in power generation, or equivalent industrial manufacturing/power generation setting, or OEM operations/maintenance that demonstrates thorough knowledge of standard engineering principles/practices/techniques and power generation operations/maintenance processes with expertise in one or more of the following areas: process control, operational technology (OT), electrical, turbine-generators/rotating equipment, boilers/heat recovery steam generators, and/or non-destructive testing (NDE/NDT).

  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience is helpful. Some college coursework in engineering is desirable.

  • Must have the ability to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules.

  • Must be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.

  • Experience in supervising craft employees desired.

Preferred Requirements

  • Technical Field Advisor experience on steam or gas turbines.

  • Experience working withsteam turbines,combustion turbines, and otherrotating equipmentsuch as pumps and motors.

  • Priorpower plant experience, particularly in operations, maintenance, or engineering roles.

  • Proficiency invibration analysisfor troubleshooting mechanical issues and performing equipment balancing.

  • Experience and training on Siemens, GE, or other OEM equipment.
