Job description

Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. Performs surgical case preparation i.e. surgical instrumentation and medical equipment. Relies on education and training to complete responsibilities. Works under general supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Surgical Case Preparation: This will have been satisfactorily performed when…
    • Proper equipment, instruments, and supplies are provided for procedures and specialty areas by providing with no more than 2 documented corrective incidents annually.
    • A well organized sterile setup/field is maintained at all times contributing to smooth operations at all times with no more than 2 documented surgeon complaints annually.
    • Anticipates and responds effectively by performing assignments in a timely and efficient manner with no more than 2 documented corrective incidents annually.
    • Proper sterile techniques are followed and maintains a sterile field at all times with no more than 2 documented corrective incidents annually.
    • Assistance is provided to the circulating RN with procedure/patient preparation with no more than 2 documented corrective incidents annually.
    • A working knowledge of autoclaves is followed and proper sterilization method for instruments selected at all times with no more than 2 documented corrective incidents annually.
    • A proper procedure counting of instruments, sponges and sharps is followed with no more than 2 documented corrective incidents annually.
