Employers may seek strong writing skills, creativity, and a passion for storytelling rather than formal experience. These roles help aspiring writers build portfolios and gain industry knowledge.

What do no experience script writers do?

As a No Experience Script Writer, youโ€™ll often start by assisting with research, brainstorming sessions, or drafting short scenes and dialogue under the guidance of more experienced writers. You might also review scripts, suggest edits, and help prepare script revisions for rehearsals or filming. Many teams value fresh perspectives, so your ideas and enthusiasm can make a real impact, even as you learn the ropes. Expect to receive constructive feedback, opportunities for skill development, and increasing responsibility as you gain experience. Over time, you could progress to writing complete scripts or episodes, and potentially move into more senior writing roles.

Job description

Dream job for a writer who wants to have their content seen by thousands of followers, while learning from some of the best. We will pay you to write on X, LinkedIn, TikTok, newsletters, and YouTube. Also Instagram. Also shorter scripts. Also longer scripts. If you are looking to hone your experience and dig in across a wide range of platforms, this is it.
We're hiring a Junior Writer at Contrarian Thinking, the home of one of the largest business-owner audiences on the internet. Millions of people follow because we tell the truth about money, ownership, and buying + scaling businesses.
Our platforms are where the message spreads. We need someone who can write a tight X post that gets engagement, turn a newsletter idea into social clips, draft a YouTube script that holds attention, and understand why certain angles resonate across different formats. You'll write on platforms most writers never touch in their first roles & you'll see real performance data immediately. You'll learn what converts, what lands, and what falls flat across every major platform.
The Opportunity
We reach 13M viewers and readers every week and we're on a fast track for growth. You'll join our content team as a junior writer, embedded under our Senior Editorial Producer, collaborating across platforms and learning the craft of business content from writers and editors who set the standard. This is a high-growth role where you'll ship work regularly, see real performance data, and iterate your way toward mastery.
What You'll Actually Do
Write newsletter drafts across different formats. You'll create first drafts and assist with revisions for our newsletters. You'll start with shorter newsletters (500-1,200 words) and graduate to longer formats as you develop your skills. You'll learn how to structure ideas, create hooks that work, and pace content for engagement.
Craft short-form content for social platforms. You'll write scripts and captions for X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok. You'll see what resonates with our audience in real time and learn why certain angles perform better than others.
Contribute to YouTube script development. You'll draft initial scripts for long-form YouTube content, working closely with our Senior Editorial Producer who will guide you through structure, pacing, and our editorial standards.
Research and pitch ideas. You'll identify business trends, interview subjects, or angles that could become content. You'll pitch them to the team and get feedback on your instincts.
Learn the editorial process. Every piece you write will get feedback and revision. You'll see how our team sharpens hooks, tightens logic, and refines ideas. This is your apprenticeship in business writing.
Measure what works. You'll review open rates, read rates, forward data, and engagement metrics across platforms. You'll start connecting the dots between what you write and how readers respond.
A typical month might include:
  • Drafting 2-3 newsletters under editorial guidance
  • Writing 8-10 short-form social scripts
  • Contributing to 1-2 YouTube script first drafts
  • Pitching 3-5 content ideas and getting feedback
  • Sitting in editorial reviews and learning how experienced writers approach problems
What We Need at the Core
Strong writing fundamentals. You write clearly, with good grammar and rhythm. You can explain complex ideas simply. Your writing has a voice-it sounds like a human, not an algorithm.
Genuine interest in business content. You follow business news, understand entrepreneurship, and can explain why a trend matters to business owners. You don't need deep expertise, but you need curiosity.
Ability to take feedback. You're eager to improve. You see editorial notes as helpful, not personal. You iterate without ego.
Speed and reliability. You meet deadlines. You can draft quickly and you ship work that's ready for revision.
Comfort with AI tools. You use AI for research, brainstorming, and first-draft generation. You understand how to prompt effectively and when to rely on your own thinking.
Willingness to learn. You're early in your writing career and excited to develop under experienced editors. You ask questions and absorb feedback.
Nice to have, but not required:
  • Published newsletter writing experience
  • A portfolio of 1,500+ word pieces
  • Familiarity with analytics and performance data
  • Prior editorial or content team experience
You'll Measure Success By
  • Whether your drafts require fewer rounds of revision over time
  • Open rates and engagement on your social content
  • Feedback from your Senior Editorial Producer: "This writer is coachable and improving fast"
  • Your ability to ship work consistently and on deadline
  • Whether you're pitching ideas the team actually wants to develop
As You Grow
This role will expand as you develop:
  • Ownership over full newsletter editions (from pitch to publish)
  • More complex long-form YouTube scripts
  • Short-form ad copy
  • Opportunities to lead editorial brainstorms
  • Potential path toward Senior Writer roles
Who We Are
Contrarian Thinking helps people buy businesses, build cash flow, and think independently.
  • 800K+ weekly newsletter readers
  • 2.05M YouTube subscribers, 3M Instagram followers
  • 12M+ followers across all platforms
  • Top-50 business podcast
  • Active community and investment fund
  • Creative environment where excellence is built-not just expected
The Senior Editorial Producer You'll Work Under
Your direct manager will sharpen your drafts, challenge your thinking, and help you develop a distinctive voice in business writing. They'll review your work daily, answer questions, and guide you toward independence. This is a mentorship-heavy role designed to accelerate your growth.
If you love business, write clearly, want exposure across every major platform, and are ready to learn from some of the best business writers in the industry-we want to hear from you.
