Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse

Description:
The Clinical Support Unit includes floating within women's services, specifically antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum.
RNs will float to any facility within the region.
Ratios for postpartum care follow AWHONN guidelines, with a maximum of 1:6 for couplet care.
Common diagnoses in antepartum include any gestation of 22 weeks or more, while labor and delivery may involve PPROM, placenta previa, pre-eclampsia, diabetes, twins, and high-risk patients.
RNs are not required to circulate for c-sections and will transition mothers and babies independently if NICU assistance is unavailable.
Postpartum assignments are full couplet care, and RNs will conduct car seat studies.
RNs are required to titrate drips, including common medications such as Pitocin (1-20 mL/units, may go up to 40 mL/units), insulin, and magnesium.
There is a charge nurse present on each shift and on each unit.
Surgical techs may be present on floors depending on shifts and unit needs, though less frequently at night.
RNs will troubleshoot equipment, but NICU resources are available for all deliveries, and an OB laborist and neonatologist are on-site 24/7.
Anesthesia services are available 24/7, with designated CRNA coverage.
There are no tele techs on the units; RNs will read their own cardiac and fetal monitor strips.
Shifts consist of four 12-hour shifts, with no self-scheduling allowed, though shift trading is permitted.
Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend, and holiday coverage may occasionally be needed.
Travelers will receive assignments via an app one hour before their shift starts.
All hospitals in the region are approximately 20 minutes apart and located conveniently.
Scrubs will be provided to RNs.
There will be orientation with multiple shifts covering various areas, including labor and delivery, antepartum, and the operating room.
Excellent communication is essential, alongside the ability to utilize the chain of command and available resources for advocacy.
