What is no experience programming?

'No Experience Programming' jobs are entry-level positions in the tech industry that do not require previous professional programming experience. These roles are designed for beginners who may have basic coding knowledge or have completed online courses, bootcamps, or self-study programs. Employers hiring for these positions often provide training and focus on foundational skills. Common job titles include junior developer, software intern, or coding assistant. These jobs are a great way to start a programming career and gain real-world experience.

What are common challenges faced by entry-level programmers with no prior experience, and how can these be overcome?

Entry-level programmers often face challenges such as understanding complex codebases, adapting to new programming languages or tools, and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. To overcome these, it's helpful to seek mentorship from experienced colleagues, participate in code reviews, and work on small, manageable tasks to build confidence. Many teams provide structured onboarding and training sessions, and collaboration with peers is encouraged to foster learning and growth in a supportive environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a no experience programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a No Experience Programmer, you need a foundational understanding of programming concepts, logical thinking, and a willingness to learn, typically supported by online courses or self-study rather than formal qualifications. Familiarity with basic coding tools like text editors, version control systems (such as Git), and beginner-friendly languages like Python or JavaScript is helpful. Curiosity, perseverance, and strong problem-solving skills are standout soft skills for those starting out in programming. These qualities are important because they enable newcomers to adapt quickly, overcome challenges, and build a solid base for future growth in the technology field.

Job description

Fire Alarm Service Technician

Big Muddy Fire Alarm

Topeka, Kansas | Full-Time | Competitive starting pay based on NICET level/experience + sign-on bonus

We keep the buildings people live and work in safe, and we're hiring the technicians who make that happen. Big Middy Fire Alarm installs, inspects, and services fire alarm and life safety systems across commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, and government sites.

We're a large-scale operation that still runs like a small business: your Service Manager knows your name, your truck stock is dialed in, and your growth path is real - not a slide in an org chart.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full repair cycle on customers' fire alarm systems, from diagnosis to sign-off
  • Work independently on-site, communicating directly with customers on system status
  • Keep every job compliant with NFPA 72 and location/national code, no shortcuts
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and truck stock to hit first-call completion
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees and managers to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement

What You Need

  • Experience programming and servicing major fire alarm brands (e.g., Notifier, EST, Simplex, Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, FCI)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, and sequence of operation matrices
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification โ€” required (we sponsor additional levels once you're on our team)
  • Detailed working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code)
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 30+ lbs of materials and work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces

What You Get

  • We pay for your next NICET level. Exam fees, study time, and a clear path from Level I through Level IV with pay increases tied to each level you hit
  • Ongoing manufacturer certification training
  • Company vehicle, laptop, phone, and tools provided
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Accrued PTO, short- and long-term disability
  • Generous holiday schedule

Fire alarm techs with NICET certification are in short supply nationwide right now โ€” if you've got the credential (or are close), we want to talk to you before someone else does.
