We succeed together.What the Role EntailsLightspeed LA is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Mission Designer to join our studio in sunny Irvine California. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for games and delivering polished experiences for players. Join our team of industry veterans and help us build a team and culture of respect that pushes boundaries while having fun.
As a Mission Designer, you will be responsible for designing and creating AAA high quality missions with polished gameplay experiences. The job involves collaborating with all other game development departments, such as art, engineering, and animation, to ensure the mission design experience aligns with the game's overall vision and mechanics.
The Mission Designer plays a critical role in creating engaging and memorable gameplay experiences which helps build trust between the consumer and the game developer and keeps players coming back for more. It requires a combination of creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration skills to be successful.
  • Work with your lead to create in-game mission events and experiences based on the mission requirements, game's overall vision, story, and gameplay mechanics.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align on and create engaging and immersive AAA missions.
  • Work with tech design and gameplay engineers, continuing to develop tools which ensure work efficiency and implemented content functions as intended.
  • Playtest your and other mission designer's missions to help continue to push them forward, identify and fix clarity and balance issues, and to address bugs.
  • Iterate on mission designs based on feedback to continuously improve the gameplay experience.
  • Create mission outlines and documentation, including mission objectives, scripted events, and environmental elements, to provide a roadmap for the game development team.

  • Proven experience in mission design.
  • Strong passion for video games and knowledge of the gaming industry.
  • Proficiency in using game development tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar.
  • Good communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in game design, computer science, or related field.
  • Level design experience.
  • Propensity and potential for learning and growing.

US-California-IrvineThe expected base pay range for this position in the location(s) listed above is $80,168.00 to $158,400.00 per year. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Employees hired for this position may be eligible for a sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Subject to the terms and conditions of the plans in effect, hired applicants are also eligible for medical, dental, vision, life and disability benefits, and participation in the Company's 401(k) plan. The Employee is also eligible for up to 15 to 25 days of vacation per year (depending on the employee's tenure), up to 13 days of holidays throughout the calendar year, and up to 10 days of paid sick leave per year. Your benefits may be adjusted to reflect your location, employment status, duration of employment with the company, and position level.
