These roles are designed for recent graduates, students, or career changers who are interested in starting a career in environmental science. Common entry-level positions include lab assistant, field technician, research assistant, and environmental educator. These jobs often provide on-the-job training and opportunities to learn about environmental policies, data collection, and laboratory techniques. They can serve as a stepping stone to more advanced roles in the field as you gain experience and additional qualifications.

What jobs can I get with a degree in environmental science and no experience?

No experience environmental science jobs are entry-level positions for recent graduates of environmental science degree programs. Employment opportunities exist in various fields, and your job duties can vary depending on your area of specialization. An environmental science consultant, for example, is an Earth scientist who advises government agencies about the protection of the environment and ways to decrease their negative impact. Environmental engineers use knowledge of physical sciences, such as climatology and geology, to develop plans and systems to protect the environment and natural resources. The responsibilities of researchers involve collecting data about topics related to the environment.

These skills enable accurate data gathering, efficient teamwork, and adaptability in varied environmental projects.

What entry-level tasks can I expect when starting in an environmental science role with no prior experience?

In an entry-level environmental science position, you'll likely assist with field data collection, sample preparation, and basic laboratory work under supervision. You may also help with data entry, report drafting, and maintaining equipment. Many teams encourage new hires to shadow more experienced colleagues, which helps you learn industry protocols and safety standards. Over time, you'll gain exposure to more complex tasks as you build your skills and confidence.
