Summary

Project Engineer 2 is an intermediate-level engineering role with increased responsibility on project teams and within the engineering group. This role supports production work by completing design calculations, preparing clear design packages, and communicating completed designs to internal customers and, when required, external customers.

They have a basic understanding of WesTech products and the engineering skills to complete common design work using established company methods and procedures. Completed work is peer reviewed in accordance with company procedures while the engineer continues building product knowledge, technical judgment, and ownership of deliverables.

Some of the work you will do: 

You will support multiple projects and engineering deliverables, with responsibilities that include:

  • Execute engineering deliverables using common methodologies, procedures, and practices to ensure designs are consistent with national and local standards and codes using tools such as Autodesk Inventor with Nastran, STAAD, Mathcad, MS-Excel.
  • Perform common design tasks and calculations across several projects while managing priorities.
  • Receive and incorporate comments and changes to designs, including adjusting work practices where necessary.
  • Prepare and review technical reports when required.
  • Provide complete and clear design packages for use by internal and external customers.
  • Review and stamp calculations and drawings where applicable.
  • Expand experience and proficiency in applicable products, with a solid understanding of relevant design practices.
  • Create good designs that meet company best practices, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Continue developing the ability to break down tasks, plan, estimate, and manage work to meet or beat project deadlines.
  • Collaborate professionally with teammates and peers.
  • Communicate clearly at team events by clarifying requirements and sharing areas of concern.

Throughout all phases, you will work closely with Project Managers while ensuring technical accuracy, clear communication, complete follow-through and timely delivery while continuing to grow toward greater independence and product expertise.

Here are the skills that you need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Generally at least 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of the start date, if relevant to the area of discipline.
  • Strong math skills, specifically trigonometry and geometry, with understanding of chemistry and physics.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Windows applications.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication — especially with Project Managers and internal teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ownership of deliverables through completion.
  • Comfort operating with limited procedural documentation and navigating gray areas.
  • Ability to work independently while staying tightly integrated with PM teams.
  • Practical problem-solving mindset with a bias toward execution.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Structural Engineer (SE) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of the start date, if relevant to the area of discipline.
  • Knowledge of software such as Mathcad, Inventor, Nastran, STAAD, Plant 3D, and/or Navisworks as relevant to the area of discipline.
  • Knowledge of design codes such as AISC, ASCE, and ACI as they apply to steel structures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use a workstation, computer, and phone.
