No Experience Engineer information

What is the difference between No Experience Engineer vs Junior Software Developer?

AspectNo Experience EngineerJunior Software Developer
Required CredentialsMinimal or no formal experience, often entry-level certifications or self-taught skillsTypically a degree in computer science or related field, some internships or coursework
Work EnvironmentEntry-level, training-focused, often in tech companies or startupsSimilar, with more structured projects and mentorship
Employer & Industry UsageUsed for candidates new to engineering roles, often in tech or software firmsCommon for recent graduates or those starting their software development careers

Overall, No Experience Engineers are individuals just beginning their careers with little to no prior experience, focusing on learning and training. Junior Software Developers typically have some educational background or internships, and are ready to contribute to projects with guidance. Both roles are entry-level but differ mainly in experience level and formal credentials.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, data engineering, or engineering management can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. These roles typically require advanced skills, extensive experience, and work in high-demand industries or companies with competitive compensation packages.

Can I become an engineer with no experience?

Yes, entry-level engineering positions often do not require prior experience and focus on relevant education, internships, or certifications. Developing skills in technical tools and gaining practical knowledge through projects can help you start an engineering career without experience.

Is earning $70,000 out of college with an engineering degree good?

For a No Experience Engineer, earning $70,000 annually is generally considered a solid starting salary, especially in regions with a moderate cost of living. Entry-level engineering salaries vary by location, industry, and specialization, but this figure typically reflects a competitive entry-level compensation package. Gaining skills in relevant tools and certifications can further improve earning potential over time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry-Level Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an entry-level engineer, a bachelor's degree in engineering, strong analytical skills, and a solid understanding of fundamental engineering principles are essential. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, or SolidWorks, and basic knowledge of project management tools are commonly expected. Effective problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and a willingness to learn help new engineers stand out in collaborative and dynamic environments. These skills and qualities enable entry-level engineers to contribute meaningfully to projects and adapt quickly to professional demands.

What is a No Experience Engineer?

A No Experience Engineer is typically an entry-level engineering professional who is just starting out in their career and may not have prior industry experience. These positions are often designed for recent graduates or individuals transitioning into engineering from another field. Employers offering these roles usually provide on-the-job training and mentorship to help new engineers develop essential skills. No Experience Engineer roles can be found in various engineering disciplines, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. The focus is on learning, growth, and gaining practical experience while contributing to projects under the guidance of more experienced colleagues.

What entry-level projects or tasks can a No Experience Engineer expect to work on in their first few months?

As a No Experience Engineer, you will likely start with foundational tasks such as assisting senior engineers with research, documentation, data collection, and basic analysis. You may also be involved in supporting ongoing projects through testing, troubleshooting, or helping to prepare technical reports. These responsibilities are designed to help you become familiar with company processes, tools, and best practices, while gradually building your technical skills. Collaboration with more experienced team members is common, providing opportunities for mentorship and hands-on learning.

How do I get into engineering with no experience?

To become an engineer with no experience, focus on obtaining relevant education such as a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Gaining practical skills through internships, entry-level positions, or certifications in tools like CAD or programming can also improve your chances of entering the profession.

Job Description:

Job Description

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to join our Repair Operations organization. In this role, you will design, develop, and sustain test solutions that ensure the quality, reliability, and efficiency of repaired and refurbished products across diverse hardware platforms. You will collaborate closely with repair technicians, manufacturing engineers, and quality to diagnose complex issues, reduce cycle time, and drive continuous improvement through robust test coverage and data-driven decision-making.

This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in both independent work and cross-functional collaboration. You will build test scripts and frameworks from scratch, even when documentation or guidance is limited, and leverage AI and automation to streamline test workflows, improve fault isolation, and enhance throughput. Your work will directly impact operational efficiency, first-pass yield, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, C/C++, or similar) for repair operations and depot environments.
  • Create from-scratch test solutions and procedures for new product lines or legacy units when formal guidance is limited.
  • Integrate AI/ML-driven diagnostics and automation (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive fault classification, intelligent routing) into test processes to reduce cycle time and improve accuracy.
  • Define and execute test plans, acceptance criteria, and coverage strategies for repair, refurbishment, and post-repair verification.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware, firmware, and software issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with manufacturing, repair technicians, and quality teams to standardize test processes, improve first-pass yield, and minimize NFF (No Fault Found) rates.
  • Develop and maintain test documentation: procedures, work instructions, test logs, calibration records, bill of test, and change histories.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS/ESD standards and apply best practices for test fixturing, calibration, and traceability.
  • Manage test equipment lifecycle (selection, setup, calibration, maintenance) and interface with instruments via SCPI/USB/Ethernet, etc.
  • Manage test scripts using version control and modern development practices.
  • Support NPI to repair transfer by developing repair-ready test strategies and sustaining them over the product lifecycle.
  • Lead/participate in kaizen events and 8D problem-solving, documenting actions and measurable outcomes.
  • Mentor technicians/engineers on test system usage and best practices; provide on-call support for urgent production issues.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Programming proficiency in at least one language used for test automation (e.g., Perl, Python, C#, PHP, or VBA).
  • Hands-on experience in repair operations or manufacturing (depot, factory, or service center), including test station setup and instrument control.
  • Proven ability to develop test scripts from scratch and formalize processes when documentation is limited.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware/firmware/software boundaries and familiarity with oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other troubleshooting tools.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and independent execution skills in fast-paced environments.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience using AI/ML to improve testing, such as finding issues and optimizing test flow.
  • Understanding of manufacturing quality methods like Lean, Six Sigma, and basic statistical tools.
  • Familiar with version control and good software practices in test environments.
  • Experience with repair processes and product tracking (serialization, traceability, RMA).
  • Handson experience with firmware flashing, JTAG/boundary scan, and hardware bringup.
  • Knowledge of ESD/EHS guidelines and best practices for test fixtures.

Relocation support is provided for eligible candidates

Additional Skills:

Cloud Architectures, Cross Domain Knowledge, Design Thinking, Development Fundamentals, DevOps, Distributed Computing, Microservices Fluency, Full Stack Development, Security-First Mindset, User Experience (UX)
