Heavy Equipment Operator - Job Description

A Material Handler Operator operates heavy machinery on the yard to move all types of metals, load and unload trucks, and feed the shredder. Key duties include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment, as well as maneuvering heavy machinery. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, excellent hand-eye coordination, teamwork, and a commitment to safety. A Material Handler Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of one or more types of heavy machinery used in our industry.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Equipment Operation: Operate various types of machinery.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, basic maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment, checking fluid levels and greasing moving parts.
  • Safety: Follow all safety protocols and regulations, conduct daily equipment safety inspections, and report any malfunctioning equipment to supervisors.
  • Coordination: Coordinate machine actions with other crew members using hand signals or audio signals.
  • Material Handling: Move, load, and unload building supplies, and other heavy materials at the job site.
  • ProblemSolving: Use troubleshooting skills to identify and address equipment issues and mechanical problems as they arise.
  • Documentation: Complete maintenance checklists and keep records of equipment functionality.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating a wide range of heavy equipment and understanding of machine settings.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot equipment problems.
