Data Center Services (DCS) is a shared service organization within Enterprise Information Services (EIS.) DCS serves the citizens of Oregon by enabling and supporting the missions of more than 150 State of Oregon agencies, Boards and Commissions through the delivery of Information Technology (IT) services. The DCS team maintains and operates a state-of-the-art Data Center, providing a highly secure environment with redundant infrastructure for high availability and efficiency. The services we provide include network connectivity (WAN, LAN, and Wireless), server hosting (mainframe, iSeries, AIX, Linux, and Windows), email services, Data Center colocation and data backup services.

What You'll Do

As the Colocation Technician you will provide technical, troubleshooting, provisioning leadership, and inventory support for Data Center Services' computer systems and remote sites, including Disaster Recovery sites. The Colocation Technician leads provisioning efforts for colocation spaces and infrastructure services, ensuring timely and accurate deployment of network, power, and hardware installations.

This is an active, hands-on role which relies on problem solving capabilities and self-reliance. The technician will be responsible for assisting customers on the Data Center floor as well as via phone, assisting with customer equipment installs, managing tickets within the ticketing system, communicating and escalating alerts and requests to clients and internal teams. You'll work in collaboration with other technical disciplines in the Data Center and vendors.

Please Note: This position requires on-site work in Salem. Business needs may require working irregular hours (24/7, weekends, evenings, holidays, and travel for job related purposes) in order to do work or make changes or maintenance that are not approved to be done during the hours of 6am - 6pm.

This Is What You Need to Qualify

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of information systems experience in Data Center operations, OR;

  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND three (3) years of information systems experience in: Data Center operations;

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in: Data Center operations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

  • Skilled in current Data Center technologies, system and process development methods, and the use of computing resources at all levels.

  • Ability to install and neatly manage copper, DACs, Cat5/6, fiber and other network cable/connector types in a raised floor environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio for diagramming technical environments, network layouts, and space planning documentation.

  • Excellent customer service skills with proven ability to clearly explain complex/technical concepts in terms that are understandable for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • General knowledge of server/network equipment and software support configurations, switches, firewalls and managed storage devices.

  • Good working knowledge of DCIM tool(s) and enterprise ticketing systems, familiarity with change management process is a plus.

  • Possesses an understanding of mechanical, electrical systems that are used in a Data Center environment including but not limited to: electrical distribution (power Distribution Units or PDUs), mechanical and electrical controls, diesel generators, backup power systems, HVAC systems, fire detection and suppression systems.

  • Ability to operate hand and machine tools (hammer, drill, electrical tools etc.)

  • Possesses critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills and ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers and other agencies and the public.
