The Cedarville University School of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for an Electrical and Computer Engineering Lab Technician. This is a full-time (2080-hours), non-exempt, staff position.
At Cedarville University, we cultivate technical professionals who are committed to excellence in character, conduct, and skill. Our rigorous engineering programs offer rich hands-on learning opportunities that directly engage students in their world. These opportunities require highly skilled technical support. Employment as a lab technician in our School of Engineering represents a unique opportunity to invest in the lives of students both inside and outside of the classroom, focusing on the development of the whole person in addition to technical training.
We seek applications from skilled technicians in electrical hardware design, electronics, and computer support. Industry experience in a similar role is considered highly desirable. Given our program's emphasis on developing applied skills through lab-based and project-based learning, demonstrated experience in practical application and design implementation is strongly preferred. Demonstrated success in technical education contexts and mentorship will also be highly regarded.
The School of Engineering and Computer Science is housed in a modern facility with extensive state-of-the-art laboratories. We offer ABET-accredited programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science (CS), as well as a program in Cyber Operations.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Support laboratory activities in support of the educational programs of the School with a specific focus on activities of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. This includes competent and safe operation of relevant equipment.

  • Support project-based learning activities in the School including senior capstone projects.
  • Support student competition activities across the School.
  • Maintenance and repair of electronics and computer hardware within the School.
  • Management of computer software for the School.
  • Develop and deliver equipment-specific and lab-specific safety training for students in the School.
  • Assist in the development, installation, operation, and maintenance of audio-visual equipment for the School.
  • Mentor and support students in academic, professional, and spiritual development.
  • Assist in assessment and documentation of operations related to accreditation processes (including ABET).
  • Participate in the development of a collaborative work environment amongst other school faculty and staff, and the broader university community, which is built on a biblical framework of service, respect, and Christian love.

Position Requirements:
  • A two-year associate's degree or equivalent industrial experience related to electrical or computer engineering is desired. A bachelor's degree in an electrical or computer engineering related discipline preferred.

  • Five or more years of industrial experience in a technician role involving support, development, and maintenance of electrical and computing equipment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for electronics and electrical equipment, with skills in repair of electronics, soldering, PCB development, electrical troubleshooting, equipment testing and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience in training people in the operation and safety of electrical equipment, and/or computer hardware.
  • Experience in electrical and computer-related testing preferred.
  • Software support skills for general Windows applications and specialist engineering software.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate technical subject material to students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team with students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage in Christian mentorship and discipleship in both one-on-one and larger group contexts.
  • Qualified applicant must be a born-again Christian with a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
