Child Nutrition General Worker

POLYTECH School District is now accepting applications for Child Nutrition General Worker 5.5 Hrs. Closing Date for Application: June 2, 2026. Date of Employment: As soon as possible.

POLYTECH School District is seeking candidates with strong interpersonal skills to join our high school food service team. As a child nutrition worker, you will carry out a variety of activities outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of baked and cooked food.
  • Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health standards.
  • Prepares and serves food according to a planned menu, standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures in order to meet mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.
  • Evaluates prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature.
  • Monitors kitchen and cafeteria areas (e.g. proper charging procedures for items taken, employee safety, working procedures, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary working environment
  • Merchandises food and beverage items in an attractive manner and for efficient customer access.
  • Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure sanitary conditions.
  • Restocks disposable items and provides Child Nutrition Manager with inventory usage and data.
  • Participates in all required professional trainings.
  • Follows all district and building safety regulations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Licensure and Certification: N/A.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with large-scale cooking and food preparation/service.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors

Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Write routine reports and correspondence.

Speak effectively before individuals and/or small groups of students and school employees.

Add and subtract six digit numbers and multiply and divide with numbers through six digits. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.

General knowledge of the best methods of preparing and cooking foods in large quantities; ability to adjust recipes to the quantity required.

Ability to lift 35 lbs. on a reoccurring basis. Ability to stand on concrete flooring for 2.5-7.5 hours per day.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.

Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Terms of Employment

This is a ten-month, permanent part-time position (5.5 hours per day when school is in session). This position reports to the Child Nutrition Manager. Successful completion of Criminal Background Check, TB Test, and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to start of employment. Salary is calculated in accordance with the verified educational level and work experience of the selected candidate and in accordance with the district's Cafeteria Salary Scale. Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
