Job Description

The Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily custodial operations of a secure building to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for employees, visitors, and contractors. This position supervises janitorial personnel, coordinates cleaning schedules, conducts quality inspections, and ensures compliance with Company policies, security requirements, safety standards, and applicable environmental regulations. The Janitorial Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for custodial operations and works closely with facility management to support the operational needs of the building. All duties are to be performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily activities of janitorial personnel.
  • Assign work responsibilities and monitor employee performance to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Conduct routine inspections of offices, restrooms, common areas, conference rooms, and other facility spaces to verify cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ensure cleaning services are performed in accordance with Company standards, security protocols, and safety regulations.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate janitorial staff on cleaning procedures, equipment operation, workplace safety, and customer service.
  • Coordinate special cleaning projects, floor care, carpet cleaning, and emergency cleanup activities.
  • Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies, equipment, and consumables; coordinate ordering and replenishment as needed.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to customer concerns and service requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Coordinate with Facility Management, Building Administration, contractors, and security personnel to support building operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, staff schedules, supply inventories, training, and performance documentation.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, security concerns, and equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, environmental regulations, OSHA requirements, and applicable health and safety standards.
  • Perform other supervisory duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of commercial custodial operations, sanitation standards, and infection prevention practices.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, chemical handling requirements, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team management skills.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least two (2) year of directly related experience that demonstrates knowledge of janitorial duties and 1 year of experience with supervision of employees.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a criminal background check, drug screening, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near an approved testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest testing location.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining positive relationships with employees, customers, and clients.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions with minimal supervision.

Fit For Duty Test:

  • Lift: Lift 20 lbs. from floor to knuckle x 2,

  • Carry: Carry 20 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 20 feet, self-paced but continuous,
  • Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 3 for each knee, self-paced but continuous,
  • Stand from Supine Position Test: From a supine, recumbent position, while wearing arctic gear, test recipient must be able to stand without assistance x 3, self-paced (this task must be accomplished safely without significant loss of balance or falling and without assistance). Allow one re-test when there is a loss of balance considered unsafe or a fall.
  • Stoop & Twist: Perform alternate cross over toe touches x 5 each side, self-paced but continuous,
  • Walk: Walk on a treadmill at 3 MPH for 10 minutes with good balance
  • Stairs: Climb up and down 10 steps x 2 for a total of 20 steps, self-paced.
