Job Description Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistryinvites exceptional applicants with a Ph.D. degree, postdoctoral experience in chemistry, biochemistry or related areas, and an established research program to be the Ohio Eminent Scholar in Structural Biology at Miami University.

Job Description

Candidates at the Associate or Full Professor rank should lead an established research program and demonstrate a strong record of external funding. Candidates at the Assistant rank must demonstrate exceptional potential for building a funded program and expertise in utilizing high-field NMR. While candidates of all ranks will be considered, priority will be given to those with an established independent research program and a successful record of securing and maintaining external funding. The successful candidate will be a principal user of the high-field NMR facility, with a research program that actively utilizes and supports the instrumentation's ongoing operations. The Department's high field NMR facility features NMR spectrometers at 850 and 600 MHz.

Duties will include directing undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students; maintaining an internationally recognized, externally funded research program and participating in service to the institution.

While most appointments will be made at the candidate's current rank, applicants with an extraordinary record of scholarship, external funding, and academic leadership may be considered for appointment at a higher rank at the time of hire. The successful candidate will not currently have primary employment within the state of Ohio.

Anticipated start date of August 2027.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has 20 faculty members committed to excellence in research and teaching. The department offers undergraduate degrees in chemistry or biochemistry, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry. The department is also an integral part of the graduate degree program in Cell, Molecular, and Structural Biology. Research and teaching are supported by outstanding core facilities, including the Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related field with a strong emphasis on NMR structural biology.
