This position provides technical leadership and support for faculty, staff, students, visiting scholars, and external clients using the NMR spectrometer and related instrumentation. The position also includes teaching undergraduate chemistry courses and managing the daily operations, budget, safety compliance, and infrastructure requirements of the instrumentation facility.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**NMR Facility Leadership and Operations* Oversee the installation, setup, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the NMR spectrometer and associated instrumentation.* Independently operate, manage, and maintain NMR instrumentation and conduct advanced NMR experiments.* Lead and support a diverse community of researchers, including faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, staff, visiting scholars, and commercial clients.* Train, supervise, and provide technical guidance to all instrument users to ensure proper operation and compliance with established protocols.* Independently implement, optimize, troubleshoot, and interpret NMR experiments and analytical methods.* Perform routine calibration, performance testing, preventative maintenance, hardware troubleshooting, and repairs to maintain instrument performance and reliability.* Coordinate and perform hardware and software upgrades of NMR systems and associated equipment.* Manage cryogen services, including liquid helium and liquid nitrogen replenishment for superconducting magnets and related cooling systems.* Order and maintain supplies necessary for the operation of the NMR facility.* Administer instrument scheduling and user access.* Maintain data acquisition and processing systems, including coordination with Information Technology personnel as needed.**Teaching*** Teach undergraduate courses and laboratories in chemistry, including general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and related disciplines.* Develop and deliver course content, assess student learning, and maintain academic standards consistent with departmental and institutional expectations.* Support student learning through mentoring, advising, and engagement in research-related activities.**Administrative Responsibilities*** Manage the daily operations and operating budget of the chemistry/biochemistry instrumentation facility.* Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the NMR facility.* Monitor and coordinate facility infrastructure requirements necessary for the operation of the NMR instrumentation, including communication with facilities personnel regarding air handling, environmental controls, and related building systems.* Maintain records, documentation, and reports related to facility operations, budgets, maintenance activities, and compliance requirements.**Other Duties*** Perform other related duties as assigned in support of departmental, college, and university goals.### **Physical Requirements*** Regularly move, transport, and position cryogenic liquid tanks and related equipment used in NMR operations.* Safely handle and maneuver full cryogen tanks weighing up to approximately 800 pounds with the use of appropriate material-handling equipment and established safety procedures.* Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies associated with laboratory and instrumentation facility operations.* Ability to work safely in laboratory environments and around specialized scientific instrumentation.**Minimum Requirements**Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.#### Additional Information:**The College**The Ohio State University at Newark offered its first classes in 1957 with a mission to provide affordable, open access to Ohio State for all Ohioans.
