Job description

What We're Looking For
Responsible for leading bridge inspection tasks, preparing detailed inspection reports, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety standards. This role includes planning and conducting field inspections, evaluating bridge conditions, and documenting findings in accordance with Client, State, and Federal standards. You will collaborate closely with the project manager to ensure all inspection data is accurately recorded and submitted on schedule. Additionally, you will assist in developing repair recommendations and collaborate with design teams on repair designs as needed. Leveraging your technical expertise, you will address design-related issues, working with the project manager to solve problems creatively, interact with clients, and ensure tasks are completed on time. You will also contribute to the development of conceptual and detailed designs, performing calculations to support project completion using current tools and software. The role may also involve mentoring and training junior engineers, reviewing their work, and providing constructive feedback. As part of the team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of a wide range of projects for HNTB's clients.
What You'll Do:
  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.
  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team's work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:
  • Perform and supervise bridge inspection services including scheduling, inspections, report writing and review and database management.
  • Perform and/or review structural load rating calculations of various bridges.
  • Develop project inspection and safety criteria, load rating calculations, and estimating National Bridge Element quantities and costs.
  • Cost control on projects and quality control within bridge discipline.
  • Resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate structural deficiencies and field engineering difficulties and coordinate schedules.
  • Manage single and multi-discipline structural engineering projects
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring of project team members, including other engineers and technical support staff such as (Assistant Team Leaders and CADD techs).
  • Lead a small team of engineers in the execution of project design and production on both small and large projects.
  • Prepare and check condition survey drawings and/or specifications.
  • Review and check engineering work completed by others.
  • Oversee planning and inspection phases of projects.
  • Market to clients in pursuit of additional projects.

What We Prefer:
  • PE licensure in the states of NJ and NY.
  • Bridge inspection experience with local agencies such as PANY&NJ, NJ Transit, NJTA and/or NJDOT.
  • Successful completion of FHWA National Institute's 130092 training course "Fundamentals of LRFR and Application of LRFR for Bridge Superstructures" and 130078 "Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members" within the last 5 years.
  • Successful completion of FHWA National Institute's 2 week training course 130055 "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" including 5 year refresher training 130053 as needed.
  • Successful completion of FHWA National Institutes' 130110 "Tunnel Safety Inspection" training.
  • Experience with load ratings using software packages such as AASHTOWare's Bridge Rating (BrR), CSi Bridge, etc., and Combis, InspecTech and/or BDIS database packages.
  • Physically capable of performing continuous field work including working at heights, within confined spaces, using specialized bridge inspection access equipment, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, and working alongside highways and/or railroads using traffic and railroad flagging protection services as needed, etc.
  • OSHA 10 hour certification.

The approximate pay range for New Jersey is $105,590.66 - $180,168.68. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
