Job description

Job Summary:

Position: Staff Counsel - Sports

Location: New York, NY (On-Site, 5 days a week in office)

The Role:

Roc Nation is seeking a Staff Counsel to join the Roc Nation Sports team, reporting directly to the COO. This role plays a critical role in providing hands-on legal support across athlete representation and sports related transactions.

The ideal candidate is confident, motivated, and comfortable working in a fast- paced and rapidly changing business environment. This position requires the ability to manage high volumes of work, navigate complex deals and collaborate closely with agents, executives and internal partners across the organization. This position will play a critical role in the future growth and success of Roc Nation Sports.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, structure and negotiate a wide range of sports and player related agreements;

  • Partner with internal legal teams across the organization on matters impacting the sports division;

  • Coordinate with outside counsel when appropriate;

  • Provide guidance on NIL related state statutes and regulations, with an emphasis on compliance;

  • Advise on and maintain familiarity with NFL, NBA, and MLB agent rules and regulations;

  • Develop and maintain a centralized library of legal resources to support business needs;

  • Organize and manage legal and transactional records for the sports division;

  • Support agents, executives, and stakeholders on legal matters tied to ongoing deals and initiatives;

  • Handle additional legal projects and responsibilities as needed;

  • Other duties, as assigned

Education:

  • Juris Doctor required;

  • Two years of practical work experience;

  • Active member in good standing of the New York State Bar or another US bar, with eligibility to register as in house counsel in New York.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to manage multiple matters at once and move deals forward efficiently

  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills, with experience handling both simple and complex transactions

  • Sound understanding of the sports and entertainment industries and related legal trends

  • Proven experience working closely with sports agents

  • Familiarity with deals involving the NFL, NBA, MLB, and other domestic and international sports organizations

  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments

  • A proactive, action oriented mindset with a focus on speed, execution, and business growth

The expected compensation for this position is:

$88,000.00 USD - $110,000.00 USD

** Pay is based on a number of factors including market location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
