What does a typical week look like for a Nike Product Tester?

A typical week for a Nike Product Tester often involves receiving new products, such as shoes or apparel, and following specific instructions for wear and use in real-life activities. You’ll record your experiences, complete detailed surveys, and may be asked to provide photos, measurements, or activity logs. Testers often work independently but may participate in occasional group feedback sessions or virtual check-ins with Nike’s product teams. The workflow is structured around product testing cycles, with downtime between projects, making schedule flexibility important. This structure allows testers to focus on providing comprehensive, honest feedback that directly influences Nike’s next generation of products.

What is a Nike Product Tester job?

A Nike Product Tester evaluates footwear, apparel, or equipment before it hits the market. Testers receive products to use in real-world conditions and provide feedback on fit, comfort, performance, and durability. Their insights help Nike improve designs and create better products for athletes and consumers. This is typically a volunteer opportunity rather than a paid position.

Is the Nike tester program real?

The Nike product tester program is a legitimate opportunity where selected individuals can test and review Nike products. These programs are often part of marketing campaigns or product development and typically require application and selection processes. Be cautious of scams and verify official Nike channels when applying or providing personal information.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Nike Product Tester position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Nike Product Tester, you need a keen eye for detail, a genuine interest in athletic footwear and apparel, and the physical ability to rigorously test products as directed. Familiarity with feedback portals, basic fitness tracking devices, or survey software is often required for reporting test results. Strong communication, reliability, and the ability to provide constructive, objective feedback help you stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure that Nike receives accurate, actionable insights that lead to product improvements and high customer satisfaction.

Do Nike testers get to keep the products?

Nike product testers typically do not get to keep the products they test, as they are often provided for evaluation purposes only. Testers usually use the products during testing periods and return or discard them afterward. However, some programs or specific roles may offer product samples or incentives, so conditions can vary depending on the testing program.

Does Nike product testing pay?

Nike product testers are typically not paid for their testing activities; they often participate as volunteers or in exchange for free products or discounts. Some third-party companies that conduct product testing may offer compensation, but Nike itself generally does not pay individuals for testing its products.

How do I become a Nike product tester?

To become a Nike product tester, you typically need to apply through Nike's official channels or participate in their product testing programs, which may involve signing up on their website or being selected based on your activity or expertise. Having a background in sports, fitness, or product testing, along with good communication skills, can improve your chances. Availability for testing and providing honest feedback are also important factors.

Job description

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
As a member of the newly established NikeSKIMS Product Creation team, you will work in a fast-moving, agile environment in close partnership with SKIMS. You will collaborate with NIKE onshore and offshore footwear functional partners, including Innovation, Design, Product Management, Product Development, Material Development, Product Testing, PCC, PMO, and SKIMS partners.
You will navigate the NIKE matrix to ensure the team's process model aligns with NIKE Footwear Engineering standards and methodologies while consistently driving product excellence. This role reports to the Footwear Product Creation Lead.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The NikeSKIMS team is looking for a Senior Footwear Product Engineer with strong footwear product creation expertise and experience working with overseas manufacturing partners. This candidate will help guide products from development through manufacturing, using tools, systems, data, and cross-functional partnership to drive quality, cost effectiveness, manufacturability, and clear decision-making.
We are seeking someone who operates with confidence in less-defined spaces, applies innovative engineering approaches to new concepts, products, and processes, and can read and interpret technical drawings, analyze process data, and translate insights into refined product specifications and recommendations. This person leverages consumer insights and sound judgment to evaluate trade-offs that create the greatest benefit for the business, the product, and the consumer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Footwear Product Creation, Product Testing, Development, or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant industry experience in footwear manufacturing, product creation, research and development, product testing, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, design sketches, and/or 3D digital files, with the ability to use a systems approach to identify potential problems, challenges, options, and solutions.
  • Knowledge of lasts, footwear pattern engineering, tooling, materials, test methodologies, and manufacturing processes is highly preferred.
  • Ability to identify and drive valuable engineering solutions from concept through manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple internal and external partners.
  • Digital literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Miro, spreadsheets, database management, and 2D/3D CAD/CAM tools and pattern engineering software; proficiency is a plus.
  • Ability to value differences, work across cultures, and navigate NIKE's organizational matrix.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to work across stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 35%, as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
You will help drive NikeSKIMS footwear product creation from brief through commercialization across sport and lifestyle products, bringing engineering expertise, cross-functional partnership, and a strong focus on craft, fit, comfort, performance, quality, sustainability, and cost/value.
  • Provide early technical guidance on construction, materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, sustainability, cost, and engineering solutions, including process, lab testing, MCS, and MPS considerations.
  • Identify manufacturing, sustainability, performance, quality, and costing risks early to help prevent issues before they impact product delivery.
  • Review samples throughout product creation and commercialization, providing clear feedback to enable cost-effective, high-quality deliverables that meet consumer expectations.
  • Help develop new NikeSKIMS engineering best practices and evolve existing practices to improve quality, craftsmanship, performance, and efficiency.

We offer a number of accommodations to complete our interview process including screen readers, sign language interpreters, accessible and single location for in-person interviews, closed captioning, and other reasonable modifications as needed.
