Security Guard (On call for NIGHT and weekend shifts, multiple locations)
Position Type: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Hourly Rate: $17.00
Employment Type: Full -Time
Required work schedule:
Various days, 12AM - 8AM or 12 AM - 4PM, 4PM - 12 AM or 4PM - 8AM, for emergency coverage as needed double shift
Various locations: within Astoria and one location in Corona
Job Summary
The Security Guard will be the first point of contact for all residents, visitors, guests, and employees within senior and multifamily residential buildings. The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, professional, and welcoming environment while providing excellent customer service.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Monitor and authorize the entrance and departure of employees, residents, visitors, guests, and other persons to maintain the security and safety of the premises.
  • Monitor building surveillance cameras and report suspicious or unusual activity.
  • Keep public areas clear of loitering and unauthorized activity.
  • Direct visitors to their appropriate destination within the building.
  • Provide professional customer service in accordance with company standards and expectations.
  • Open and close mechanical doors for residents, visitors, and employees when entering or leaving the building.
  • Answer and forward telephone calls, take messages when necessary, and provide information regarding the Property Management Office schedule.
  • Generate, distribute, deactivate, or disconnect building and/or garage key fobs or access cards as authorized.
  • Sign for and receive mail and deliveries.
  • Prepare written reports documenting daily activities, deliveries, incidents, irregularities, equipment or property damage, theft, unauthorized persons, and unusual occurrences.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including fires, medical emergencies, threats, alarms, and other emergency situations.
  • Investigate alarms and emergency situations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Immediately report emergencies, incidents, and other significant information to designated company and client personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Property Manager based on operational needs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Remain alert and aware of surroundings at all times.
  • Work effectively and appropriately with residents, visitors, guests, employees, management, and emergency personnel.
  • Communicate information regarding events or situations that may affect building operations, security, or resident safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment when handling sensitive information.
  • Attend required training and meetings to remain informed of company policies, security procedures, emergency protocols, and operational updates.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and communication as required by management.

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule and non-scheduled hours as required.
  • Must be able to work a double if required
  • Must be able to stay awake during shift/s

Qualifications:
  • Must have a High School diploma, GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid New York State Security Guard License
  • Must have a minimum of 6 months to 1 year of security guard experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate the English language well.
  • Ability to think clearly and make appropriate decisions during crisis or high-stress situations.
