Job description

Extruder Operator – Night Shift
Join our dynamic food manufacturing team at Diamond Pet Foods as an Extruder Operator! Opening for our Night Shift with working hours of 4:00 pm – 4:20 am. The Extruder Operator is responsible for producing pet food kibble according to precise specifications and managing product changeovers with minimal downtime. Other key duties include performing routine maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting quality issues, and ensuring consistent production standards. This role requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to maintain high efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate extruders and perform routine adjustments and changeovers in minimal time.
  • Responsible for determining and regulating feed, fat, and water rates.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the machinery and troubleshoot minor operating issues.
  • Differentiate product die plates and demonstrate capability to set up die plates and knife drive assemblies and disassembles for cleaning.
  • Perform quality checks for product specifications including bulk density, piece size uniformity, and moisture content. As well as monitor the preconditioner temperature requirement.
  • Responsible for sharpening knives and managing waste tubs.
  • Understand and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP’s, and HACCP.
  • Working overtime is MANDATORY and requires full participation.
  • Keep work area clean and maintain assigned portion of master sanitation schedule.
  • Report all safety violations and hazards to the supervisor immediately and participate in all safety programs and procedures. Must always wear required PPE.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor to be accepted with a positive and professional attitude.

Qualifications:
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening (drug screen, background check, and physical.)
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb, squat, bend, pull, push, and scrub in all directions.

Work Environment:
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors near operating equipment, loud noises, and loose particles.
  • Work performed requires employees to operate in all different temperatures/weather, dusty areas, confined spaces, and heights.
  • Employees are required to wear a bump cap, hearing protection, safety shoes/boots, and safety glasses at all times.
