Position Purpose
At Saint Mary's Hospital, the Medical Oncology/Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with cancer and other acute medical conditions in an inpatient setting. The RN plays a vital role in delivering specialized oncology treatments, managing complex medical-surgical needs, coordinating interdisciplinary care, and supporting patients and families throughout their hospitalization and recovery.


What You Will Do:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology and medical-surgical patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.

  • Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, recognize changes in clinical status, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.

  • Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and oncology treatments in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Manage symptoms related to cancer treatment, chronic illness, and acute medical conditions while promoting patient comfort and safety.

  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, and case managers to develop and implement individualized plans of care.

  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, symptom management, and discharge instructions.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation while adhering to quality, safety, and infection prevention standards.


Minimum Qualifications


Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Current and valid Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Minimum of one year of acute care inpatient nursing experience.

  • Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.


Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • One or more years of Medical-Surgical and/or Oncology nursing experience in an acute inpatient setting.

  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chemotherapy certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.


Position Highlights:

  • Full-Time, 36 Hours/Night Shift

  • Rotating Every 3rd Weekend / Every Other Holiday
