Critical Facility Engineer IV
The Data Center Technician IV is an expert-level role responsible for maintaining the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of all electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications systems within the data center.
Shift: Night Shift | 10:00pm – 6:30am | Tuesday – Saturday
Key System Responsibilities
  • Mechanical Systems:
    Chilled water systems, HVAC units (roof-top units, CRAC/CRAH), and humidification systems.
  • Electrical Systems:
    Power distribution from utility/generator switchgear through UPS systems to the customer load.
  • Fire Life Safety: Wet and pre-action sprinkler systems and associated detection equipment.
  • Communications Infrastructure:
    IFD/MDF/MMR environments, structured cabling, supporting infrastructure, and customer space management.
  • The technician will work closely with the Data Center Manager to ensure all systems operate at peak efficiency, issues are resolved quickly, and customer uptime is maximized. This senior-level role develops creative, cost-efficient solutions, improves operational processes, and supports ongoing system enhancements.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
  • Monitor, operate, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions across critical facility systems.
  • Track and trend operational data to identify issues and improvements.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Partner with the Data Center Manager to execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Recommend new technologies and efficiency improvements to maximize operational performance.
  • Prevent unplanned customer-impacting outages by proactively managing infrastructure.
  • Oversee mechanical loading and cooling efficiency on the data floor and in support areas.
  • Provide mechanical and integrated controls expertise for facility systems.
  • Interpret and apply fire codes and electrical regulations.
  • Draft and refine procedures for preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Assist with management of maintenance discrepancies and operational priorities.
  • Manage trouble tickets, work orders, and infrastructure projects.
  • Support cage build-outs, overhead installations, and rack/stack activities.
  • Use the CMMS system to track and document all work.
  • Assist with inventory management and equipment labeling.
  • Ensure timely completion of tasks in alignment with Service Level Agreements.
  • Provide physical security within the client premises.
  • Deliver outstanding day-to-day customer service.
  • Escalate incidents appropriately and provide detailed reporting.
  • Conduct facility and security tours, documenting and resolving issues.
  • Uphold and promote the client’s operational principles, culture, and guiding values.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Expert understanding of mechanical and electrical data center systems including power distribution, generators, transformers, UPS, switchgear, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and fire life safety systems.
  • Strong expertise in NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and applicable building codes.
  • In-depth knowledge of fiber optics, structured cabling, and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols such as LOTO, arc flash, and OSHA requirements.
  • Proficiency with data trending, tracking, and integrated monitoring systems.
Skills & Experience
  • 5–7 years of experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting large industrial systems, including chilled water systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, HVAC, diesel generators, UPS systems, and more.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Expert experience installing, dressing, and terminating fiber and copper cabling.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing servers, IT hardware, and network switches.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Abilities
  • Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and contractors.
  • Supervise vendors performing maintenance or upgrades.
  • Learn quickly and adapt to issues that arise during or after business hours.
  • Work within a strict, process-driven environment.
  • Analyze complex problems logically and efficiently.

  • Operate hand tools and electrical tools such as multimeters and infrared cameras.
Education & Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical/electrical roles within critical environments (data centers, hospitals, or power plants preferred).
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check including criminal, employment, education, DMV, and credit review.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, or sit for 1/3–2/3 of the time.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  • Ability to use hands for typing and handling equipment.
  • Ability to see close, distance, and color ranges.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with shifting priorities.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for 1/3 of the time.
Compensation
  • Hourly rate: $43.00–$46.00/hr
  • Eligible for annual bonus and equity based on individual and company performance.
