Job description

Custodian - Night Shift  (Tuesday-Saturday)
Description: Delano Public Schools has an opening for an experienced full-time custodian to work the evening shift. 
Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
  2. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  3. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  4. Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  5. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
  6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  7. Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  8. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  9. May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to the supervisor.
  10. May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
  11. Will report issues of any type to the supervisor.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Ability to understand verbal instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Current Boiler License is preferred, but not required.

Hours: Full-time, Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
Salary and Benefits:  

  • Salary: $20.05 - $23.40/hr (based on experience) plus Night Differential of $0.95/hr
  • Benefits include health and dental insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and holidays
