THIS IS A NIGHT SHIFT POSITION. HOURS ARE MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY 5:30 PM TO 6:00 AM
The CNC Machine Operator supports Cooper Steel of Virginia's goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. POSITION SUMMARY
The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for producing parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD amp;T)
Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock
Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
Verifies setting by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards
Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
Keep work areas clean and organized
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
Attention to detail
Ability and willingness to cross train across several machines within shop
Ability to learn safe overhead crane operations
Proficient in English
Previous experience using Forklift
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
Prior experience using overhead cranes is preferred
Prior experience in a similar role is preferred
OTHER SKILLS
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs work mostly in the shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
