Job description

Position Overview:

Palmer-Donavin is a leading distributor of building materials serving customers throughout the Midwest and Southeast. Our night shift operation plays a critical role in delivering on our promise of outstanding service to our customers.

The Night Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading the warehouse night shift operation and ensuring all outbound material is pulled, packaged, and loaded safely, accurately, and on schedule for delivery to customers.

This role oversees nightly workflow, assigns tasks, and manages the performance and development of the night shift team. The supervisor works closely with operations leadership and other departments to resolve issues, maintain safety standards, and ensure warehouse operations run efficiently.

This position is a hands-on working supervisor role, supporting the team on the warehouse floor while directing workflow, maintaining operational standards, and driving accountability for results.

The night shift plays a critical role in delivering Palmer-Donavin’s commitment to outstanding customer service by ensuring materials are prepared and loaded correctly for next-day delivery.

Shift: Sunday - Thursday 7:30pm - 4:00am (overtime as business requires).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead nightly outbound warehouse operations to ensure orders are pulled, packaged, and loaded safely, accurately, and on schedule for delivery
  • Assign and prioritize work across the shift based on nightly workload and operational needs
  • Lead daily startup meetings to review safety topics, previous day errors, KPI performance, and the nightly workload
  • Assist employees with pulling, packaging, and loading outbound material as needed to meet operational deadlines
  • Conduct quality control inspections of outbound trucks to ensure materials are loaded correctly and secured for safe transport
  • Monitor workflow and adjust work distribution or staffing to maintain efficiency and productivity
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate with sales, purchasing, and operations teams to resolve problems quickly
  • Monitor team performance and coach employees to meet productivity, quality, and attendance expectations
  • Supervise, train, and develop warehouse employees to build a reliable and high-performing team
  • Support hiring and onboarding efforts, including interviewing candidates and assisting with new employee training
  • Enforce company safety policies, conduct daily safety discussions, and investigate accidents or safety incidents
  • Maintain communication with operations leadership and participate in meetings to support operational performance and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 1+ years of experience in management

Requirements:

  • Satisfactory criminal history check
  • Satisfactory result on a pre-employment drug screening
