ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Set up and operate automatic encapsulation machines, including the Index K120 or similar equipment
- Perform product changeovers and install the correct machine parts and tooling for each capsule size
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble encapsulation machine parts according to approved SOPs
- Adjust machine settings and monitor capsule weight, fill consistency, closing, locking, and overall capsule quality
- Identify basic machine issues, clear minor jams safely, and notify the Manufacturing Lead, Supervisor, or Maintenance when additional support is required
- Handle encapsulation tooling and machine parts carefully to prevent damage, loss, or product contamination
- Move pallets, drums, materials, and equipment using approved material-handling equipment such as a pallet jack
- Work safely in a dusty manufacturing environment while wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Verify the correct blend, capsule size and origin are utilized
- Feed material into hopper at the start up and throughout the duration of the run
- Submit samples to QC for approval
- Maintain weight control, closing station, empty capsule magazine and capsule polisher during operation
- Any deviation of weight, improper sealing or other job function is to be reported immediately to the manufacturing lead or supervisor
- Responsible for in process logs and machine down time
- Must remain at machine at all times during machine operation
- Responsible for routine machine maintenance and cleaning by following SOP instructions
- Responsible for in process sampling requirements
- Ensure all drums are properly labeled
- Ensure work area is clean and maintained in a c GMP environment
- Ensure equipment usage and room logs are properly maintained
- Other duties as assigned
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Critical Operating Relationships:
· Reports to the Manufacturing Manager. Has close relationships with QC, QA, Product Development, and Maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience operating automatic encapsulation machines in a pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or dietary supplement manufacturing environment is preferred
- Experience operating an Index K120 encapsulation machine or similar automatic encapsulation equipment is strongly preferred
- Experience with machine setup, product changeovers, cleaning, disassembly, reassembly, and basic troubleshooting is required
- Experience working in a cGMP-regulated manufacturing environment and completing batch records, equipment logs, and in-process documentation is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs and safely move pallets, drums, materials, and machine parts using approved equipment
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, stretch, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks during the shift
- Must communicate effectively with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments and promptly report production or equipment concerns
- Must be able to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions in English, including SOPs, batch records, and safety requirements
- Must have basic mathematical skills for capsule weight calculations, yield reconciliation, and production documentation
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to independently set up, adjust, operate, and monitor automatic encapsulation equipment
- Ability to properly disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble machine parts and encapsulation tooling without causing damage
- Ability to recognize worn, damaged, missing, or incorrectly installed machine parts and escalate concerns before startup
- Ability to maintain capsule weight, capsule locking, fill consistency, and product quality throughout the production run
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a dusty manufacturing environment while wearing required PPE
- Ability to safely operate a manual or powered pallet jack, if trained and authorized
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete in-process checks, batch records, equipment logs, downtime records, and room documentation
- Ability to work independently, remain at the machine during operation, and maintain productivity while following all safety, quality, and cGMP requirements
- Basic computer skills for production documentation and manufacturing systems are preferred
