Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Technician to support maintenance operations in our aluminum extrusion manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on extrusion and ancillary equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation and minimize unplanned downtime. The Maintenance Technician works closely with production and engineering teams to support overall plant efficiency and equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

Preventive Maintenance:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on aluminum extrusion presses and supporting equipment.
  • Inspect machinery and plant systems to identify wear, damage, or potential failure points.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in the CMMS system.
  • Assist in optimizing machine performance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

Troubleshooting & Repairs:

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems related to aluminum extrusion equipment, including extrusion presses, cooling tables, pullers, stretchers, and saws.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment to identify faults, interpret alarms, and assist with corrective actions.
  • Perform basic PLC diagnostics such as input/output verification, fault code analysis, and component replacement under established procedures.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform timely, effective repairs to support production schedules.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to diagnose recurring issues and implement corrective actions.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Perform all maintenance activities in compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE, and safe work procedures at all times.
  • Report safety hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly and participate in corrective actions.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and 5S activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and workplace safety.
  • Support equipment upgrades, modifications, and installations as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in aluminum extrusion or heavy industrial manufacturing.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems; PLC programming experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience maintaining aluminum extrusion equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, PLC, or automation-related certifications a plus.
  • Forklift, lift platform, or welding certifications a plus.
