Key responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end night shift operations for Vehicle Operators and Fleet Specialists, including assigning work, executing testing missions, and completing commercial runs.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Vehicle Operators, including performance management, scheduling, and enforcing safety and compliance standards.

  • Serve as the on-site escalation point, monitor compliance and safety, and coordinate incident response and shift handoffs.

Job description

Waabi, founded by AI visionary Raquel Urtasun, is the leader in Physical AI. With a world-class team, we're unlocking the next era of autonomous transportation with technology that's powering commercial autonomous trucks and robotaxis. Waabi is backed by and partners with world leaders in AI, automotive, logistics, and deep tech.

With offices in Toronto, San Francisco, Dallas, and Pittsburgh, Waabi is growing quickly and looking for diverse, innovative and collaborative candidates who want to impact the world in a positive way. To learn more visit: www.waabi.ai

Waabi is building generative AI for the physical world, starting with autonomous trucks. Our Texas road operations run both R&D testing and revenue freight out of our Lancaster terminal, and we are standing up a night shift to meet our commercial customers where they are.

The Shift Supervisor manages the people and truck side of daily operations, shift by shift. You are the on-the-ground supervisor who makes sure our trucks are compliant, our crews meet the standard that autonomous vehicle operations demand, and every mission leaves and lands safely. On night shift you are a senior leader on site: you run the shift, coach in real time, manage crew fatigue, and hand off a clean, complete picture to day shift every morning. This role carries direct reports.

You will…

  • Manage end-to-end night shift operations for Vehicle Operators and Fleet Specialists, partnering with Dispatch to assign work, execute testing missions, complete commercial runs, and meet Waabi and customer KPIs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Vehicle Operators, including performance, development, scheduling and time off requests, and corrective action.
  • Uphold Waabi safety and compliance standards in the terminal and in the field, and enforce accuracy on tractor and trailer pre-trip inspections, post-trip Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports, and Enhanced Inspection Program requirements.
  • Evaluate crew performance through direct observation, remote monitoring, ride-alongs, and safety event review, and deliver real-time coaching and corrective action.
  • Actively manage crew fatigue — enforce rest and meal periods, adjust assignments when someone is not fit for duty, and escalate patterns before they become incidents.
  • Own personnel-to-vehicle assignments in partnership with Dispatch and the Vehicle Operations and Test Operations Leads, accounting for platform qualification, certification tier, and Hours of Service.
  • Build, document, and own the night-to-day shift handoff so open issues, truck status, and unfinished work carry forward cleanly.
  • Serve as the on-site escalation point for in-field and terminal issues, initiate incident response, and escalate Priority and Critical events alongside Dispatch.
  • Run daily compliance and terminal checks across fleet management tools, ELD logs, dispatch status, 5-S audits, attendance, and timekeeping, and coordinate with Fleet Readiness to triage mechanical and technical issues and minimize downtime.
  • Represent Waabi professionally with customer facilities, carrier partners, and site contacts overnight.
  • Maintain and improve Waabi’s culture of excellence in safety, and speak up immediately when something is not right.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in fleet operations, logistics, or transportation management.
  • Proven leadership experience (e.g., supervisor, team lead, or lead driver) specifically managing CDL operators or shift-based teams.
  • Active Class A CDL strongly preferred. Understanding the technical and physical demands of Class 8 operation is critical to managing this workforce.
  • Deep knowledge of transportation regulations (DOT, FMCSA), particularly Hours of Service and compliance requirements for commercial operators.
  • Experience working in a technical or testing environment; prior autonomous vehicle experience is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with fleet management software, scheduling tools, and telematics platforms.
  • Strong written communication. Your shift record and handoff are what day shift and leadership rely on.
  • Sound judgment under ambiguity and a bias for action, with the ability to make defensible decisions overnight with limited support on site.
  • Able and willing to work the night shift described below, including flexible start and end times, extended shifts of up to approximately 14 hours, weekends, and holidays, and to travel to remote sites and roadside locations as needed.
  • Prior experience supervising an overnight or 24/7 shift, or standing up a new shift, site, or team, is a strong plus.
  • Enhanced Inspection Protocol (EIP) certification or CVSA inspection training, and experience conducting formal safety observations, audits, or incident investigations, are a plus.
  • Passion for self-driving technology, solving hard problems, and building a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Night Shift Schedule and Flexibility:
Base shift: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM CT, based at Waabi’s Lancaster, TX terminal.
Start and end times may shift. The shift may begin and end a few hours later and, less commonly, a few hours earlier, based on commercial and customer demand and when loads need to move. Night shift crews are expected to be as flexible as day shift crews.
Perks/Benefits:
Waabi provides a competitive benefits package that includes:
  • Competitive compensation and equity awards.
  • Health and wellness benefits encompassing Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • Paid parental, medical and family care leave.
  • Generous PTO Policy.
  • Retirement savings plans including 401(k) or RRSP options.
  • Health savings account contribution options.
  • Daily drinks, snacks, and catered meals (when in office).
  • Regularly scheduled team building activities and social events both on-site, off-site & virtually.
  • Additional benefits are offered and tailored to specific country locations.
  • As we grow, this list continues to evolve!

Waabi is a technology start-up building technologies to transform the way the world moves. Join our talented team to be a part of the future and to make an impact!
