What is a night per hour?

Night Per Hour jobs refer to positions where employees work during nighttime hours and are paid by the hour, rather than receiving a fixed salary. These roles are common in industries that require 24/7 operations, such as hospitality, healthcare, security, and transportation. Working night shifts often comes with additional pay incentives or 'shift differentials' due to the less desirable working hours. Night Per Hour jobs can be full-time or part-time, providing flexibility for workers who prefer or need to work overnight schedules.

What are some unique challenges faced when working night per hour shifts, and how can employees manage them effectively?

Working night per hour shifts often means adjusting to an unconventional sleep schedule, which can impact alertness and overall health. Employees may encounter challenges such as fatigue, difficulty maintaining social connections, and adjusting to lower supervision during late hours. To manage these challenges, it's important to develop a consistent sleep routine, stay hydrated, and communicate proactively with supervisors and teammates. Many employers also provide resources or support for night shift workers, so taking advantage of these can help ensure both productivity and well-being.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a night auditor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Night Auditor, you need strong attention to detail, basic accounting knowledge, and customer service skills, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hotel management systems, point-of-sale software, and spreadsheet tools is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the capacity to work independently during late hours make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure accurate financial records, smooth overnight operations, and positive guest experiences in hospitality settings.

Job description

Description
We are hiring a Night Auditor!
We are looking for people passionate about serving others! Working at the front desk puts you at the hub of the hotel, with the most interaction with our guests. The department is open 24/7....so each front desk role is as important as the others. Front desk associates are key to the overall guest experience. As the late shift, you essentially work without management supervision, so your responsibility is even greater as you help close out the business for the day and check guests in and out during non-traditional hours. Your proactive, responsive, and caring approach will make all the difference. The night shift also ensures guests have a safe stay by monitoring abnormal activity inside and outside the hotel and watching for weather issues that could threaten our resting guests. If you enjoy working semi-independently from others and have a winning personality and high sense of responsibility - this role is perfect for you! We have a great company culture at the Raleigh Marriott City Center where everyone is valued and treated with respect. Sunday night availability is mandatory for this position.
Role Responsibilities:
As a Front Desk Night Auditor, you are responsible for giving our guests the best hospitality experience they can have by:
Processing credit card transactions and other (restaurant, events, lounge) transactions for the day
Handling the phone system, transferring calls, reservations, etc
Verify, balance, and review hotel room availability
Perform Check-in and Check-out procedures
Administer guest payment policies and look for errors from the day shifts
Prepare folios for the morning departing guests
Maintain overall lobby appearance and assist with AM breakfast set up if needed
Be versed in all hotel emergency procedures
