What is a night cleaning job?

Night cleaning jobs involve cleaning and maintaining buildings or facilities during nighttime hours, typically after regular business operations have ended. Night cleaners are responsible for tasks like sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and sanitizing restrooms and common areas. These roles are common in offices, schools, hospitals, and commercial spaces to ensure cleanliness without interrupting daytime activities. Night cleaning often offers flexible hours and may require attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Some positions may also involve using specialized cleaning equipment or handling cleaning chemicals safely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a night cleaner?

To thrive as a Night Cleaner, you need attention to detail, time-management skills, and familiarity with cleaning protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency in using commercial cleaning equipment, chemical handling, and safety procedures is commonly required. Reliability, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills for this position. These skills ensure thorough cleaning is completed efficiently and safely during non-business hours, maintaining a hygienic environment for daytime operations.

What are some common challenges faced by night cleaning staff and how can they be managed?

Night cleaning staff often work during hours when most of the building is unoccupied, which can present challenges such as limited supervision, working in low-light areas, and encountering unexpected maintenance issues. Effective communication with supervisors before and after shifts, following detailed checklists, and using proper safety equipment are important strategies for managing these challenges. Additionally, teamwork and clear handover notes help ensure that any issues are addressed promptly and that cleaning quality is maintained throughout the facility.

Job description

We are seeking Night Shift Service Technicians to join our team and deliver hands-on commercial kitchen deep cleaning, route-based fryer cleaning and oil filtration services, along with equipment cleaning support.
This is not a typical cleaning job. This role is best suited for dependable, self-driven individuals who take pride in showing up, prefer working independently, and are comfortable with physical, hands-on work in a structured environment. At the same time, this role requires being a team player—supporting coworkers, adapting to schedule changes, and assisting when coverage is needed.
This role is part of Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions, a leading provider of "Going Green" services for commercial kitchens. Filta helps businesses extend the life of their cooking oil, reduce environmental waste, and maintain cleaner, safer kitchens.
What We Offer:

  • Competitive WEEKLY Pay starts at $21 per hour and increases to $21.50 per hour at 6 months based on performance review
  • 4-day work week (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Night schedule starting at 5:30 PM, running 10–12 hour shifts into the next morning
  • 3 full days off each week
  • Supportive, professional team environment with clear expectations and accountability
Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform deep cleaning of commercial kitchen equipment and environments
  • Execute fryer cleaning and oil microfiltration services
  • Arrive on time and complete all scheduled shifts reliably
  • Deliver high-quality customer service at each location
  • Manage time effectively to complete service routes on schedule
  • Operate and properly maintain all company equipment
  • Demonstrate safe driving habits and maintain clean, organized service vehicles
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with management
  • Accurately utilize company service software/app
  • Work both independently and collaboratively when needed (team jobs, coverage, schedule adjustments)
Important Role Requirements:

This role is physically demanding and requires working in hot, non-climate-controlled commercial kitchen environments.
It is a strong fit for individuals who:
  • Prefer staying active and working with their hands
  • Take ownership of their work and responsibilities
  • Value consistency, structure, and reliability
  • Can work independently without constant supervision
  • Are also willing to step in and support the team when needed
This is not janitorial or housekeeping work. This is a structured service role involving specialized equipment, route-based work, and customer-facing responsibilities.
Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required by insurance carrier)
  • Reliable personal transportation to/from the shop
  • Ability to perform frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, twisting, scrubbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-climate-controlled environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Benefits:

  • 4-day work week
  • Bonuses
  • Paid Training
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Health insurance (day 1, with employer contribution)
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, STD, LTD, Life
  • 401(k) eligible after 6 months with employer match
  • Free uniforms
  • Opportunity for advancement
  • Wellness resources
