In residential or commercial settings, the NID is often installed at the point where the phone or internet line enters the building. It serves as a demarcation point between the service provider's responsibilities and the customer's wiring. Technicians may access the NID for troubleshooting, maintenance, or installation of new services. Understanding the role of the NID can help in managing network connectivity issues.
