Job description

Field Support Technician – Robotic Targets

Overview

MVP Robotics is a cutting-edge engineering firm dedicated to safety and human performance through applied robotics in grueling environments.   MVP's robotic tackling dummies have eliminated concussions on the football field from the NFL to youth football programs. MVP's HEKTR robotic targets enable a new level of readiness and survivability for our nation's warfighters.  MVP continues to develop next-generation training and operational tools to overcome the challenges of tomorrow.

Position Summary

The Field Support Technician (FST) is responsible for the maintenance, operational readiness, sustainment, and accountability of robotic target systems and associated support equipment used in military live-fire training operations. This role ensures assigned systems remain mission capable through preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, configuration management, and technical support activities.

The FST operates at the intersection of maintenance, operations, and engineering, providing direct support to customer training activities while contributing to product improvement, field testing, and reliability initiatives. This position requires strong electromechanical troubleshooting skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work independently in austere training environments.

What you'll do

Fleet Readiness & Sustainment

  • Maintain the operational readiness, sustainment, and accountability of assigned robotic target systems and supporting assets.
  • Execute preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and recovery actions to maximize system availability and reliability.
  • Maintain configuration control of assigned systems and support equipment, ensuring compliance with approved hardware and software baselines.
  • Monitor equipment condition, identify maintenance trends, and communicate sustainment risks impacting training operations.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, software, communications, power, and mobility system failures using approved procedures and technical documentation.
  • Conduct system inspections, firmware updates, software installations, calibration, configuration changes, and approved field modifications.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and account for supporting assets including base stations, batteries, charging systems, trailers, communications equipment, tools, and test equipment.
  • Utilize multimeters, oscilloscopes, diagnostic software, and other test equipment to resolve complex system faults.

Training Support & Customer Engagement

  • Ensure assigned systems are operational, mission capable, and available for scheduled training events.
  • Coordinate with USAF personnel, range staff, and program stakeholders to resolve equipment issues and minimize operational downtime.
  • Provide operator and maintainer training on system operation, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and safety requirements.
  • Support training exercises as required to ensure mission success.
  • Travel to support maintenance, training, demonstrations and technology delivery as required.
  • Represent MVP Robotics professionally while maintaining strong working relationships with customers and partners.

Reliability & Engineering Support

  • Support engineering development, testing, validation, and field evaluation activities.
  • Collect and communicate failure data, maintenance trends, and operational observations to support product improvement and reliability efforts.
  • Assist with root cause investigations, corrective action implementation, and validation of engineering changes in operational environments.
  • Provide recommendations to improve system reliability, maintainability, and operational effectiveness.

Logistics & Asset Management

  • Maintain accountability and serviceability of robotic systems, support equipment, spare parts, tools, and maintenance consumables.
  • Support inventory management, shipping, receiving, material control, and site-level logistics activities.
  • Identify material shortages, maintenance trends, and sustainment risks; coordinate resolution with logistics, engineering, and program management.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document maintenance actions, inspections, inventory transactions, and equipment status within approved maintenance and asset management systems.
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance records, service reports, inspection documentation, and readiness data.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, maintenance standards, safety requirements, and customer security protocols.

We Require:

  • Technical degree, military technical training, trade certification, or equivalent hands-on experience supporting electromechanical, robotic, military, or industrial systems.
  • 1- 3 years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex electromechanical or robotic systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, communications, embedded computing, battery, and power distribution systems.
  • Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, diagnostic software, and other test equipment.
  • Familiarity with networking, radio communications, and embedded Linux or Windows-based systems.
  • Experience with soldering and wiring, including component-level repairs and controller wiring connections.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, and repairs in field or operational environments.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities in dynamic environments.
  • Willingness to travel and support military training operations in remote and austere field environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for DoD facility access.
