Description:

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) offers "over and above" support services to students dealing with social, economic, and educational challenges, with the goal of increasing access, retention, and transfers.

CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) is a program for EOPS qualified students that provides additional support to single-parents receiving TANF/CalWORKs (cash aid) to help them expand their educational opportunities and obtain the skills necessary to gain meaningful employment.

NextUp supports our foster youth students in achieving their education goals by providing direct services that our students need to succeed at Taft College.

California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids' (CalWORKs) mission is to help students acquire employable skills and training that will make them self-sufficient.

Work Study Responsibilities:

An EOPS/CARE/NextUp/CalWORKs Student Peer Mentor is trained to guide other EOPS/CARE/NextUp and CalWORKs students through Taft College by utilizing their own personal experiences as resources that helped them to succeed at Taft College.

o Meet with EOPS students to follow up on progress recommendations and make referrals to other services.

o Answering phones and general inquiries

o Scanning documents

o Maintaining and updating records of eligible students.

o Handle incoming mail.

o Assist with the recruitment and outreach events for EOPS/CARE/NextUp and CalWORKs eligible students.

Requirements:

o Student must be an EOPS/CARE/NextUp/CalWORKs student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

o Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at Taft College.

o Student must remain enrolled and in good academic standing during employment.
