Description:

What We Do: At Gunfire Games, we’re passionate about creating unforgettable worlds and experiences. With a legacy built on titles like Darksiders 3, The Remnant Series, and Chronos, we're driven by the future of game development. Our team thrives on innovation, collaboration, and honing our craft to its finest edge. We're looking for talented, passionate people to help shape the next chapter in our story.
Gunfire Games is seeking a Temporary Environment Artist to help us create incredible and breathtaking environments for our upcoming titles. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of texture creation, shape language, and world-building. Required to be a self-starter, must be motivated and willing to work with minimal supervision. The position may be performed remotely (within the United States), although the ability to be on-site is preferred.
What you'll do:

  • Understand Game Design and Technical Requirements: Leverage your understanding of game design, engine capabilities, and platform limitations to ensure your work aligns with both creative and technical goals.
  • Adapt to Style and Technique: Take direction on style and technique, aligning your work with the project's artistic direction and maintaining consistency across assets.
  • Implement Feedback: Implement feedback efficiently and effectively, refining your work to meet project objectives without compromising the overall vision.
  • Maintain Communication: Keep communication consistent among the art team, production, and design, ensuring all teams are aligned and working toward the same goals.
  • Task Estimation and Delivery: Estimate tasks with high accuracy, break down steps to completion, and deliver on time while maintaining the highest quality.

Who you are:

  • You have 1+ years of professional art experience in game development, honing your skills and contributing to engaging game worlds and assets.
  • You are proficient with Unreal Engine, Substance Painter, Zbrush, and 3ds Max, leveraging these tools to create high-quality 3D assets and environments.
  • You possess strong modeling and texturing skills, ensuring your work is both visually stunning and optimized for game performance.
  • You have a solid understanding of artistic principles and apply this knowledge to create visually appealing, functional assets.
  • You have expertise in world- and level-building, with the ability to create immersive levels that meet design and gameplay needs while enhancing the overall player experience.
  • You have experience with physically based materials, using them to create realistic and visually striking textures and surfaces.
  • You demonstrate solid organizational skills, adhering to asset budgets and management practices to ensure the project's efficiency and scalability.
  • You have excellent communication skills, can articulate your process clearly, and welcome critical feedback to continuously improve your work.
  • You have a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new commercial and proprietary software, always seeking ways to enhance your skill set and contribute to the team’s success.
  • You are physically based in the U.S. and legally able to work without employer sponsorship for an indefinite period of time.

Bonus XP:

  • Shipped an AAA game
  • Unreal Engine 5 experience

The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the hired applicant may be required to undertake additional tasks as may reasonably be expected.
Note on benefits: While temporary positions have limited benefits, they are eligible for medical coverage.
Pay range: $60,000 - $105,000. Title level and base pay offered will be based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
