To thrive as a Next.js Tailwind Developer, you need strong expertise in React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and CSS, with practical experience in building scalable web applications using Next.js and Tailwind CSS. Familiarity with tools like Git, code versioning systems, RESTful APIs, and deployment platforms such as Vercel is commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help developers collaborate efficiently and create user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure modern, high-performance web applications that meet both technical and user experience standards.

What are some common challenges faced by developers working with Next.js and Tailwind CSS, and how can they be addressed?

Developers working with Next.js and Tailwind CSS often encounter challenges such as optimizing performance for server-side rendering, managing global styles, and ensuring efficient purging of unused CSS. Collaborating within cross-functional teams, clear communication about component design and shared style conventions is essential. Leveraging tools like PurgeCSS, adhering to best practices for component structure, and keeping up with framework updates can help address these challenges and create a more maintainable codebase.

What are Next.js and Tailwind CSS?

Next.js is a popular React framework that enables developers to build fast, scalable, and SEO-friendly web applications with features like server-side rendering and static site generation. Tailwind CSS is a utility-first CSS framework that allows for rapid UI development by providing low-level utility classes. When used together, Next.js provides the application structure and routing, while Tailwind CSS handles the styling, making it easy to build modern and responsive web interfaces efficiently.

Job description

Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.
Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work - both in and out of the office.
We're looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to join our growing Software engineering organization in the USA. Our organization consists of cross-functional squads, each with a specific area of ownership across the Oura product. You will be part of the Commerce Mission. The Commerce Mission drives Oura's product sales revenue through online e-commerce and offline partnerships.
What you'll do:
  • Own end-to-end features in Cart & Checkout, collaborating with Product, Design, Data, and partner engineering teams to define scope, architecture, and rollout plans.
  • Design and implement full-stack solutions using technologies like TypeScript, React/Next.js, Tailwind, AWS Lambdas, DynamoDB, Redis, and modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Lead technical design for high-impact initiatives in areas such as:
    • Global checkout flows (multi-currency, taxation, shipping, localized UX).
    • Fraud and risk controls that protect customers and the business.
    • Enabling buying pathways in ever-expanding sales channels
  • Champion quality and operational excellence:
    • Write well-tested, well-documented code.
    • Instrument monitoring, logging, and alerting for new features.
    • Plan safe rollouts with feature flags, A/B tests, and clear rollback strategies.
  • Shepherd work from idea to stable production:
    • Drive technical discovery and spike work when requirements are ambiguous.
    • Collaborate with QA and SRE to ensure readiness for peak events (launches, BFCM, campaigns).
    • Support on-call rotations by helping debug, fix, and prevent incidents in critical revenue paths.
  • Raise the bar for the team:
    • Mentor other engineers through design reviews, pairing, and thoughtful code review.
    • Help standardize patterns, documentation, and best practices as the team and codebase scale
We would love to have you on our team if you have:
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Strong Typescript skills
  • Solid knowledge of API best practices, experience with serverless patterns (AWS Lambdas) and Service-Oriented Architectures
  • Have designed, built, and deployed scalable, performant web services on AWS
  • Have experience with DevOps, including CI/CD pipeline configuration, monitoring and observability for code in production, and crafting quality alerts to support operational excellence.
  • Have a pragmatic, entrepreneurial attitude and delivery-focused mindset: you can handle tradeoffs between short-term goals and long-term tech debt
  • Deep expertise in either:
  • Frontend: modern React/Next.js, TypeScript, modern CSS (e.g., Tailwind), web performance, accessibility, and frontend testing (Jest, Playwright); or
  • Backend: designing and operating web services on cloud platforms (preferably AWS) with strong API design, data modeling, and observability practices

Nice to haves (at least one):
  • Experience with online payments, PSPs, digital wallets, 3DS, or fraud/risk systems.
  • Experience with global commerce (multi-currency, localization, tax/shipping rules, regional content).
  • Experience building and maintaining design systems, shared component libraries, and/or experimentation frameworks (feature flags, A/B tests).
  • Prior work on event-driven or serverless architectures at scale
Benefits
At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. Everyone here at Oura has a ring of their own and we are continually looking to improve employee health.
What we offer:
  • Competitive salary and equity packages
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
  • 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave
