Conde Nast is seeking a Director, Newsletter Strategy & Email Operations. This is a key leadership role in Audience Strategy within Content Operations.

Newsletter and email strategies at Conde Nast are fast evolving, and we require a bold leader to lead newsletter transformation. This person will bring confident strategies, guide editorial teams, pivot fast, and champion newsletter and email at Conde Nast globally.

Conde Nast's approach to newsletters is evolving from considering email as a distribution platform to conceiving of newsletters as editorial products that delight readers and meet audience needs. Our brands are growing their direct-relationship audiences and email provides both relationships, and a stable source of referrals to sites.

Future-facing email strategies protect the consumer's inbox, drive all Unified KPIs, create community (through call-and-response Q&As) and convert and retain paying subscribers (via premium newsletters).

Conde Nast's email strategy must also evolve, with a focus on email acquisition, a contact strategy to prevent churn and unsubs from email/newsletter channels, and a single brand voice for the channel. The Director, Newsletter Strategy & Email Operations will partner with the marketing and lifecycle teams to ensure the highest quality of inbox experiences that match our brands.

This role has influence and impact:

  • The role guides and sets strategy in partnership with brand teams

  • This role must influence laterally: tight alignment with the lifecycle team, marketing and brand teams on a single inbox experience and brand voice

  • Works with product to expedite newsletter and email capabilities globally

  • Influences partnerships with platforms such as Substack

This person manages an Email Ops team, which oversees email set up and delivery for emails that are sent via our Email Service Provider, and two newsletter strategists.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads newsletter strategy for Conde Nast globally, working with brand teams to grow audience, community and revenue

  • Leads newsletter strategies that will drive engagement, traffic, subs, retention and commerce, confidently guiding brand-specific strategies

  • Leads the email transformation

  • Leads the Email Ops

  • Work with brands: with Global Editorial Directors, Heads of Editorial Content, Aud Dev to create the best brand-specific strategies. At times, this role will challenge assumptions and push new and innovative strategies

  • Propose, test and guide internal talent to author / anchor newsletters, giving confident opinions and / or data-backed feedback on the voices that with best foster reader-writer relationships

  • Partner with the lifecycle, subs & memberships, commerce, advertising teams to ensure value for audiences that will drive revenue

  • Newsletter platforms & partnerships: Write the playbook for, and expand on, network strategy for off-platform newsletters and newsletter communities

  • Elaborate on subscriber-only newsletter playbook

  • Tight alignment with the lifecycle team on what communications our newsletter signups and subscribers get, and when.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $145,000-$155,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
