Title: Newsletter Producer

Location: Remote, FL


Position Summary:

The Newsletter Producer is responsible for the daily creation, production, and distribution of The DayStarter newsletter, along with breaking news alerts and additional newsletter products. This role ensures newsletters are accurate, engaging, and delivered on schedule while supporting audience growth and engagement through strong editorial judgment, precision execution, and data-informed improvements. The producer works closely with editors and reporters to curate content and maintain a consistent, high-quality reader experience across email and digital channels.


The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom. They have a strong eye for accuracy and consistently catch errors before content goes out the door. They are mission-driven and believe in the value of local journalism, with a natural focus on serving reader needs and improving audience experience. They are proactive in identifying ways to improve newsletters and engagement, and they bring forward ideas for new approaches and products. They stay calm under pressure, adapting quickly to breaking news and last-minute changes without sacrificing quality or precision.


Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end production of daily and weekly newsletters, including writing, editing, formatting, and scheduling content for send
  • Build newsletters in Sailthru with accuracy and consistency, ensuring all links, dates, and details are correct prior to distribution
  • Collaborate with newsroom staff to curate relevant local news content and package it in a clear, engaging, journalistic voice tailored for newsletter audiences
  • Maintain publishing calendars and coordinate workflows to ensure deadlines are consistently met, including in fast-moving breaking news situations
  • Monitor performance metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, and subscriber growth using tools like Marfeel and Sailthru
  • Apply audience insights and analytics to improve engagement and content performance over time
  • Maintain and evolve newsletter templates as needed
  • Support updates to the homepage, social channels, Social News Desk, and other engagement platforms as needed
  • Ensure accuracy through thorough fact-checking, proofreading, and link validation prior to send
  • Manage multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Work closely with the Newsletter Editor and Engagement Producers to align on priorities and execution


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in editorial, newsletters, digital media, or a related journalism field
  • Strong writing and editing skills with solid AP Style knowledge
  • Experience using email marketing platforms such as Sailthru, Mailchimp, Listrak, MailerLite, or similar tools
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and basic A/B testing concepts
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
  • Audience-first mindset with an interest in local news and community storytelling
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience growing newsletter audiences and improving engagement metrics
  • Basic HTML knowledge for email formatting and troubleshooting
  • Background in newsroom or journalism environments
