Job description

Job Title: Promotions Manager

Position Summary

The essential purpose of the position of Promotions Manager is to enhance the audience profiles for key station programs by promoting local news, local programming, local station community events, key syndicated programming, public service efforts and advertising sales promotions. The primary media to be utilized toward this effort are, the broadcast channels and digital/social media products of KTVN, and when needed & approved, various other outside types of media. Achieving positive changes in audience, both quantitative and qualitative, translate to increased revenue for the station.

Major Objectives/End Results

To increase KTVN’s audience size, profile, and engagement through effective advertising, promotion, & public relations using KTVN’s broadcast channels and various digital/social media platforms including 2news.com, Meta, Instagram, Tik Tok, You Tube, etc.

To represent KTVN in the marketplace, personally and through scheduling talent and leadership appearances and participation in community events, activities and organizations.

To build effective communication, cooperation and support for promotion objectives and activities with other station managers and departments, particularly the News, Sales and Production Departments.

Major Duties

Oversee and/or write, shoot, produce and edit all advertising and promotion generated in support of KTVN's broadcast programming, digital platforms, and community service efforts. This includes the daily spots and/or posts giving topical information for today's newscast, 2 News Nevada image spots and digital posts (Breaking News, Stormwatch,etc), spots and/or posts for promotable news stories, spots and/or posts for station special projects (Homeless Nevada), and proof of performance “POP” spots and/or posts highlighting competitive victories. Also responsible for locally generated promotional web/digital content, radio spots, news releases and other promotional media content.

Qualifications

Excellent broadcast & digital promotion writing and producing skills.

Advanced in-field and studio shooting and editing preferred. (Adobe Production Suite)

Advanced on air and digital design skills including: editing & graphics software knowledge & expertise, ability to use and create “templates.” (Adobe Production Suite)

Maintain managerial image and work ethic. Lead promotion strategy, hold confidences, ability to work with News Director, Director of Sales, Operations Manager, & Controller. Take initiative, meet deadlines, work with talent, maintain proper managerial distance from non-management co-workers, dress professionally.

Thorough understanding of TV news and Digital/Social Media

Must be forceful enough in personal interaction to hold coworkers and vendors accountable and keep projects on deadline with staff and vendors and assure the station’s need is met.

Excellent follow through on action items requested by and agreed upon with co-managers.

Excellent organizational, planning, & time management skills.

Sound marketing knowledge. Must be able to understand and apply audience research (news consultant, Nielsen, comScore, & digital metrics).

Excellent relationship skills w/ vendors & partners—CBS, syndication, apparel/merch, outside media, etc.

Digital and Social media operations & marketing experience.

Understanding of sales objectives and how to integrate these objectives with news promotions when appropriate and/or required.

High school degree. Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications preferred.

Two years’ experience in broadcasting and/or digital marketing, preferably in a TV station's Promotions or Creative Services Department.

Additional Information

Flexible hours are required to meet the demands of exploiting promotional opportunities as they arise.

Attendance at community events, promotion events and some station functions.
