The San Francisco Standard

Job description

We're looking for comedians who have something to say about San Francisco
The San Francisco Standard is building a roster of on-screen comedy talent - funny, sharp people who can turn the news into something people want to watch.
Who we're looking for
We cover San Francisco obsessively - city politics, tech, housing, culture, food, and everything in between. We want comedians who are just as plugged in. The ideal candidate finds the absurdity in a Planning Commission hearing, can riff on the mayor's latest move, or knows exactly why a new restaurant opening in the Mission is a whole thing. You don't need a résumé or a big following. You need to be genuinely funny, quick, and curious about this city. Applicants will need to have the capability to independently shoot/edit their own videos and submit social-ready videos.
What this could look like
Think quick comedy built for the feed: man-on-the-street bits, sharp sketches, character takes, satirical takes on our coverage - the kind of thing that makes someone stop scrolling. Our audience knows this city; you don't have to explain it to them.
How it works
  1. Send us your submission - Complete the full submission packet with your writings and clips.
  2. We'll reach out if it's a fit - Our team reviews submissions on a rolling basis. If we think you've got something, we'll get in touch.
  3. Paid development round - We'll commission a handful of original comedic segments based on our coverage - and pay you for them.
  4. Potential ongoing partnership - If the segments land, we'll publish them across our channels and explore a regular schedule together.
