Job Description:
This role involves assisting during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field while providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. Responsibilities include participating in unit activities that demonstrate high standards of quality in patient care and functioning under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Exhibit expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, integrating knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the use of tools and technologies during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, adhering to AORN standards.
  • Maintain and verify all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture levels, seals, packaging integrity, and expiration dates to ensure the operating room environment is safe and that procedures are performed under optimal conditions for patient safety.
  • Monitor the sterile field for potential contaminants, initiating or notifying the need for corrective actions under supervision.
  • Aim towards competency in Tier 1 surgical cases.
  • Demonstrate flexibility while contributing to the personalized, ongoing delivery of care within the defined scope of practice.
  • Facilitate effective communication with the perioperative team, fully participating in the Time Out Process, including Briefings and Debriefings.
  • Assist the team with patient transport, room turnovers, and room preparation tasks.
  • Exemplify professional behavior by staying current with new technologies and procedures related to instrumentation and equipment.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Model the principles of a Just Culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
  • License: Surgical Technologist license in the state of Colorado required.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
  • Computer/Typing Skills: Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days the necessary computer skills to complete job-specific online learning, access policies, and complete online benefits enrollment. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
Physical Demands:
This position may involve exposure to various hazards in a healthcare environment, including radiation, toxic chemicals, and biological hazards. A safety management program is in place to address these issues.
