Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer will assess product designs for producibility and partner closely with engineering teams to ensure manufacturability in an aerospace environment. This role develops, implements, and optimizes manufacturing processes, tooling, and work instructions to improve production efficiency and quality. The position focuses on continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies, while ensuring compliance with aerospace and regulatory standards. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and vendors to support configuration changes, resolve quality issues, and enable successful production of advanced aerospace products.

Responsibilities

  • Assess product designs for producibility and collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure manufacturability.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes, including process flows, routings, and standard work instructions.
  • Design, specify, and improve tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids to support efficient and repeatable production.
  • Use Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to increase production efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance throughput.
  • Perform root cause analysis on production and quality issues, and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support configuration changes, including evaluating engineering change orders and updating related manufacturing documentation.
  • Review supplier data and coordinate with vendors to ensure components and assemblies meet manufacturing and quality requirements.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable aerospace and regulatory standards, including AS9100, ISO 9001, and FAA/EASA requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD/CAM models, and specifications to define and validate manufacturing methods.
  • Support CNC, automation, robotics, and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities to bring new designs into production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality, supply chain, and operations, to resolve issues and support production goals.
  • Utilize SAP, Teamcenter, and related systems to manage manufacturing data, bills of material, routings, and configuration control.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Provide on-the-floor engineering support to assembly and production teams, troubleshooting process and tooling issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate access and readiness for program-specific work, including completing non-program tasks while awaiting program access where required.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing process development and optimization for assembly and production operations.
  • Proficiency with SAP for manufacturing planning, materials, and production-related transactions.
  • Experience using Teamcenter or similar PLM systems to manage engineering and manufacturing data.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD/CAM models for manufacturing applications.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Familiarity with FAA/EASA regulatory requirements relevant to aerospace manufacturing.
  • Understanding of CNC machining processes and equipment.
  • Exposure to automation and robotics within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from concept through production.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and external suppliers.
  • Ability to work with assembly processes in an aerospace context.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
