RN Grad Fellow Job Responsibilities:

  • Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition. Promotes clinical decision making development in all team members. Provides validation of clinical decisions for other team members. Seeks validation from others for complex patients or unfamiliar situations.
  • Supports and empowers patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions. Counsels and acts as a resource to resolve issues. Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective. Assists in assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education. Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs while intervening to maximize patient outcomes. Coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient and family transition planning.
  • Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care to include patient and family education. Interprets trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of an educational plan for identified needs. Reviews self-development plan and professional goals and seeks new knowledge toward the progression of professional goals. Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours. Maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record.

Program Summary:

At Inova, we want you to succeed; that is why our New Graduate Residency program focuses on preparing you for your nursing career. Our nurse residency program is not a repeat of nursing school. As a resident of this one-year program, you'll be given ample opportunities to expand your clinical reasoning, communication, and leadership skills in the acute care setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: Less than one (1) year as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN); OR Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • If Associates Degree RN, the following requirements will apply:
      • Enroll in an accredited BSN program within 2 years of start date
      • Complete BSN within 5 years of start date
  • Licensure/ Certification:
    • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
