New Grad Quant information

What is a new grad quant?

A New Grad Quant, short for 'Quantitative Analyst,' is an entry-level position for recent graduates in finance, mathematics, computer science, or related fields. These professionals use mathematical models, statistical techniques, and programming skills to analyze financial data and develop trading strategies. New Grad Quants typically work at investment banks, hedge funds, or financial technology firms, where they support senior quants in research, risk management, and portfolio optimization. The role often involves a steep learning curve and requires strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a new grad quant?

To thrive as a New Grad Quant, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and programming, typically supported by a degree in quantitative fields such as mathematics, physics, engineering, or computer science. Proficiency with tools like Python, R, MATLAB, and familiarity with data analysis libraries or financial modeling systems is expected. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and interpreting complex data. These competencies enable new quants to develop robust models, contribute valuable insights, and adapt quickly in the fast-paced finance industry.

What are some typical challenges new graduate quants face when transitioning from academia to a professional finance environment?

New graduate quants often encounter challenges such as adapting to the fast-paced nature of financial markets, learning to apply theoretical knowledge to real-time problems, and navigating large codebases or proprietary platforms. Collaboration is key, as quants frequently work in cross-functional teams with traders, developers, and risk managers, requiring strong communication skills. Additionally, new grads must prioritize continuous learning to keep up with evolving models and technologies, while managing deadlines and performance expectations.

About the team + role
We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world's biggest financial problems. We're looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn't a place for complacency, it's where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We're a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.
The Business Analyst team shapes the strategy, growth, and performance of Robinhood's credit products, delivering top-tier experiences for our users. As part of the broader Credit organization, we work closely with product, engineering, risk, and operations to unlock sustainable business growth through deep analytical rigor. Our team fosters a collaborative, ownership-driven culture where every analyst directly influences business strategy and product direction.
As a Business Analyst, you'll be part of an 18-month rotational program, completing approximately five rotations across different areas of our Money and Growth org. Each rotation embeds you alongside product, engineering, risk, and operations teams - giving you direct exposure to the metrics, stakeholders, and strategic priorities that drive Robinhood's core business. You'll own real work from day one, build cross-functional fluency fast, and leave each rotation having made a measurable impact.
This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.
At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.
What you'll do
  • Build fluency across the Money and Growth org by rotating through roughly 5 distinct team assignments over the program, each with its own stakeholders, metrics, and strategic priorities
  • Analyze business performance metrics and economic drivers to identify growth opportunities and optimize business outcomes
  • Structure and solve complex, ambiguous problems across product strategy, pricing, user segmentation, and risk-return trade-offs
  • Partner with engineering, product, risk, and finance teams to execute key strategic initiatives and monitor program efficacy
  • Develop analytical models, dashboards, and executive-level presentations to inform leadership decision-making and influence core business direction
What you bring
  • Experience in business analysis, strategy, management consulting, financial services, or a quantitative analytical role
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and advanced quantitative modeling techniques
  • Ability to synthesize complex quantitative findings into clear, actionable recommendations for cross-functional partners
  • Fluency with AI tools, with a genuine interest in staying current as the tools evolve
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience
What we offer
  • Challenging, high-impact work to grow your career
  • Performance driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching
  • Top Tier benefits to fuel your work, including 100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents
  • Access to the best AI tools on the market and continuous AI skill-building for every employee, technical or not
  • Lifestyle wallet - a highly flexible benefits spending account for wellness, learning, and more
  • Employer-paid life & disability insurance, fertility benefits, and mental health benefits
  • Time off to recharge including company holidays, paid time off, sick time, parental leave, and more!
  • Exceptional office experience with catered meals, events, and comfortable workspaces
