Job description

WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond.  Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

We have a new opportunity due to growth for a Mechanical Engineer to own the board-level mechanical aspects of design for AMD’s next-generation AI and HPC infrastructure platforms. You will work on defining and integrating mechanical features of complex, high-performance systems where board-level mechanical design is tightly coupled to electrical and thermal performance, and where strong mechanical integration is critical to overall system success, ensuring these meet system requirements while remaining manufacturable and robust.

You will work closely with electrical design, system mechanical engineering, thermal, and manufacturing teams to deliver designs that balance mechanical, electrical, and thermal constraints and integrate cleanly into tray and rack-level systems.

This opportunity is based in Seattle, WA.

THE PERSON:

You are an experienced mechanical engineer and a problem solver, known for your proactive work style and excellent collaboration with the many teams and functions involved from design through validation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the mechanical definition of complex PCB designs, including board outline, mounting scheme, connector and component placement constraints, and keep-out requirements
  • Define and implement mechanical features needed to support large, high-density boards, including stiffening strategies, support locations, and structural elements
  • Work closely with system mechanical engineers to ensure alignment between board design and system-level integration, including trays, enclosures, and rack interfaces
  • Partner with thermal engineering to support cooling solutions, including placement and mechanical integration of heat sinks, cold plates, and related mounting structures
  • Collaborate with electrical design teams to co-develop layouts that balance mechanical constraints with routing and packaging needs, including connector placement and board topology
  • Engage with fabrication, assembly, and reliability teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet mechanical and reliability requirements
  • Contribute to analysis and resolution of mechanical issues such as deflection, support, and structural integrity, working with cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Support bring-up and validation by helping diagnose and resolve mechanical integration or reliability issues observed in prototypes or production
  • Contribute to board-level thermal design by supporting heat transfer from components through the PCB into cooling solutions, including consideration of stackup, thermal vias, and interface to cold plates
  • Develop and document mechanical design specifications, including requirements for board features, interfaces, and integration constraints to guide design and manufacturing

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with mechanical design of electronic assemblies, including PCB-based systems or similar high-density hardware highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, including structural support, and component integration highly preferred
  • Experience with mechanical tolerance definition and tolerance stackup analysis
  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, or similar) for design and layout of mechanical features highly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplines, including electrical, thermal, manufacturing, and reliability teams highly preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work through complex cross-functional constraints highly preferred
  • Experience with large or high-density boards used in server, networking, or accelerator platforms
  • Familiarity with connector integration and mechanical considerations for high-speed interconnects
  • Experience supporting thermal solutions such as heat sinks or cold plates and their mechanical interfaces
  • Exposure to advanced packaging or high-performance system design environments
  • Experience working with manufacturing or reliability teams on mechanical design validation and issue resolution

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
