Job description

Job Title: Business Analyst

Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled Business Analyst who can bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation.

The Business Analyst works with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand their needs, driving the future development. This includes working with the development team to design and test new features, perform regression testing on existing features, and provide technical support for internal and external customers.

The ideal candidate will have strong data analysis skills, the ability to validate and troubleshoot APIs, and the capacity to assist developers in identifying and resolving issues within code and data flows across complex applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project support
    • Takes ownership in conducting requirements gathering and analysis.
    • Liaises with internal customers and follows up to completion on various programming and IT issues.
    • Evaluates new features and functionality in upcoming releases.
    • Works with the development team to generate mockups for UI/UX enhancements.
    • Triages backlog of new features and requirements.
    • Tests requested functionality when development is complete.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Maintains current project notes and communicates information to business partners and developers.
    • Performs cross platform data analysis and validation.
    • Works independently and collaboratively with stakeholders troubleshooting system failures and data discrepancies.
    • Facilitates user acceptance testing for all new software to get final approval for deployment to production.
    • Defines and executes regression test plans to assist in implementation of software releases.
  • Business & Data Analysis
    • Analyze business processes, data models, and application workflows to identify requirements, gaps, and optimization opportunities.
    • Translate business needs into detailed functional and technical specifications.
    • Write and execute SQL queries to validate data integrity and accuracy across systems.
    • Perform data reconciliation and troubleshoot data discrepancies across multiple hops or layers of the application.
  • API Validation & Technical Support
    • Engage with external teams and partners to validate API endpoints, payloads, and integrations.
    • Collaborate with developers to define and test API scenarios, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
    • Review API documentation and verify that responses align with business rules and system expectations.
  • Debugging & Code Understanding
    • Review and interpret existing application code (e.g., Ruby or similar languages) to understand logic and trace data flow.
    • Identify issues and provide insights to developers on where and how changes should be made.
    • Support root cause analysis of application or data flow issues and propose corrective actions.
  • Data Flow Analysis
    • Map and document end-to-end data flow across systems, identifying transformation points, dependencies, and potential bottlenecks.
    • Work with architects and engineers to trace issues through multiple hops and pinpoint where data or logic breaks occur.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration
    • Serve as the liaison between business users, external partners, and internal development teams.
    • Facilitate discussions to clarify requirements, validate solutions, and ensure alignment across stakeholders.
    • Document meeting notes, findings, and validation outcomes to maintain transparency and continuity.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst in a technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL for data validation and debugging.
  • Hands-on understanding of API testing tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger).
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts (Ruby, Python, or Java preferred).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience in troubleshooting data flow across multiple systems or services.
