Both roles require medical degrees and board certification, but neuropathologists have additional fellowship training. They often work in specialized medical centers, making their expertise distinct within the pathology field.

How long does it take to be a neuropathologist?

Becoming a neuropathologist typically requires about 13 to 15 years of education and training, including four years of undergraduate studies, four years of medical school, a one-year internship, a three-year residency in pathology, and a one- to two-year fellowship in neuropathology. Certification and licensing are also necessary to practice professionally.

How much are neuropathologists paid?

Neuropathologists typically earn between $150,000 and $300,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and work setting. They often require specialized training and certification in pathology and neurology, which can influence salary levels.

What do I need to become a neuropathologist?

To become a neuropathologist, one must complete a bachelor's degree, followed by medical school to earn an MD or DO degree. After medical school, a residency in pathology is required, often followed by a fellowship in neuropathology to gain specialized training in diagnosing neurological diseases through tissue analysis and microscopy.
