This role will work across MLS’s League office, cloud, stadium and venue network operations, broadcast connectivity, match-day technology, and third-party network ecosystems. The Network Engineer will help maintain secure and resilient connectivity, support network and security infrastructure, assist with incident response, contribute to operational documentation, and participate in change control activities across MLS’s complex sports and technology environment.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable supporting both traditional enterprise networks and high-visibility live event environments.

  • Support the operational health, availability, and performance of MLS enterprise, cloud, office, venue, and event-driven network infrastructure.
  • Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of secure connectivity across headquarters, cloud environments, stadiums, venues, broadcast partners, and match-day operations.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and security alerts using network monitoring, SIEM, and related operational tools.
  • Support match-day and high-profile event readiness by assisting with network validation, connectivity checks, escalation procedures, and operational support activities.
  • Support the configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of advanced network protocols, including BGP and multicast, to ensure reliable routing, venue connectivity, broadcast traffic delivery, and event-day network performance across MLS environments.
  • Help maintain secure network access for IoT devices, broadcast systems, officiating technology, third-party vendors, and other connected systems.
  • Troubleshoot routing, switching, firewall, VPN, wireless, DNS, proxy, and network access control issues across enterprise and venue environments.
  • Participate in the response to network incidents by gathering technical evidence, supporting triage, documenting findings, and helping restore services.
  • Support the operational stability of venue networks and secure connectivity for broadcast systems, officiating technology, business operations, and approved third-party services.
  • Develop and maintain accurate documentation, including network diagrams, configuration standards, troubleshooting guides, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Assist with network automation efforts, including documentation, testing, version control, and support for tools such as Python, Git, and NetBox.
  • Follow established change management processes for network and security modifications, including documenting changes, validating implementation steps, and supporting rollback planning.
  • Work with vendors, service providers, clubs, venues, and internal technology teams to support network infrastructure, connectivity, and security requirements.
  • Help validate vendor-provided solutions align with MLS technical, architectural, and security standards.
  • Participate in after-hours support, maintenance windows, match-day coverage, and occasional travel as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure, network operations, or network security environments.
  • Experience supporting firewalls, routing, switching, VPN, wireless, DNS, network monitoring, and access control technologies.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced operational environment where reliability, documentation, and timely communication are critical.
  • Experience supporting live events, venues, broadcast environments, sports technology, or distributed office networks is a plus.

Required Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of network fundamentals, including routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, VLANs, NAT, and network segmentation.
