Job Title: Specialist, Embedded Software Engineer

Job Code: 43373

Job Location: Rochester, NY 

Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off

Job Description:

The specialist embedded firmware engineer designs, develops, and extensively tests complex engineering solutions for advanced tactical radio operating systems and waveform software.  Works closely with cross-functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements and design of the overall system.  Participates in all phases of the software development life cycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Proficient with C/C++ and object-oriented design
  • Familiarity with real time and multi-threaded software design
  • Familiar with Windows and with real-time operating systems (e.g. VxWorks RTOS, Linux, QNX)
  • Ability to quickly analyze and understand large and complex existing software systems
  • Ability to develop software test procedures, software programs, and related documentation
  • Ability to identify, track, and repair software defects
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly convey information and ideas
  • Must be able to obtain a US security clearance
  • Requires the candidate to be able to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (Computer / Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent) and 4 years of prior related experience, or graduate degree and a minimum of 2 years prior relevant experience.  In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with Git/Bitbucket and Jira
  • Experience with continuous integration (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Experience with the Agile development methodology
  • Familiarity with RF concepts and technology
  • Experience with wireless networking software system design and development

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $84,500 - $157,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
